Description of Work

Posting is for one Transportation Supervisor I position located in Siler City Bridge Maintenance and will supervise crews in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of bridges, pipes, and culverts in Chatham County.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience in bridge maintenance and repair, as well as, bridge maintenance equipment operation

  • Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used

  • Experience in planning work and supervising a bridge crew

  • Experience in Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices

  • Experience inspecting bridges for minor maintenance needs

    Additional Expectations:

Install and maintain erosion control devices. Must be able to climb, bend, and transverse steep and uneven terrain. Position will be exposed to extreme conditions such as snow and ice, dust, extreme temps, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment. Must create a positive work environment with a team approach and be able to communicate effectively. Position will be subject to responding to emergency situations after normal work hours and on weekends. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe footwear is needed.
