University of Virginia Ultrasound Fellowship, Department of Emergency Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Department of Emergency Medicine, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, seeks multiple candidates to join the faculty as tenure-ineligible Clinical Instructors for its Ultrasound Fellowship. The Emergency Ultrasound (https://med.virginia.edu/emergency-medicine/education/fellowships/emergency-ultrasound/) program is designed to produce national leaders and is directed by Dr. Christopher Thom, Ultrasound Director. The Chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine is Dr. Andrew E. Muck, MD, MBA. The Department of Emergency Medicine (https://med.virginia.edu/emergency-medicine/) has a rich academic history that includes well-established education programs for medical students, residents and fellows.

The University of Virginia Medical Center is a 600-bed tertiary care and Level 1 Trauma center located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville. Currently, the UVA Emergency Department treats an annual volume of >60,000 patients inclusive of adult and pediatrics. The UVA expansion opened in late 2019 and provides for a new adult and pediatric Emergency Department, as well as a tower to provide expanded surgical and in-patient services. The UVA Emergency Department has a well-established residency program with a stable group of excellent faculty members who are active regionally, nationally, and internationally in teaching, research, and advocacy.

UVA is located in beautiful Charlottesville with easy access to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the eastern shore and the nation's Capital. Charlottesville is one of the best places to live; outdoors, vibrant town with culture, music, restaurants, excellent schools, etc. Opportunities for excellent clinical and laboratory-based research and teaching pursuits working within the collegial work environment are available.

Qualified applicants must have an MD or DO and have completed an ABEM/AOBEM accredited Emergency Medicine residency or ABEM/AOBEM accredited Emergency Medicine, or approved subspecialty, fellowship. Applicants must be board-certified or board-eligible and be eligible to obtain clinical privileges in the UVA Department of Emergency Medicine, or subspecialty, prior to July 2025. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate a genuine passion in the area of interest to which they apply. The directors of each fellowship program within the department heavily emphasize new faculty development.
