University of Virginia Research Assistant Professor, Public Health Genomics in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Center for Public health Genomics (https://med.virginia.edu/genome-sciences/) at the University is looking for a Research Support Assistant Professor in the laboratory of Dr. Ani Manichaikul (https://med.virginia.edu/genome-sciences/ani-w-manichaikul/) . Dr. Manichaikul’s work focuses on high-throughput molecular ‘omics data sets for collaborative projects at the cutting edge of human genetics, genomics, and high-throughput molecular ‘omics research.

Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join a collegial and productive research team focused on the statistical and bioinformatic integration of whole genome sequencing with transcriptomic and proteomic data sets with the goal of identifying novel genes and pathways involved in determining risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and related traits in large multi-center human cohort and case-control studies. Analytical responsibilities will include analysis of bulk and single-cell transcriptomic data sets, genetic association analysis of common and rare disease variants and integrative systems genetics analysis of multi-omics data.

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in statistics, biology, or any quantitative science, including but not limited to Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Data Science. Completion of postdoctoral training and at least 3 years of relevant experience. Enthusiastic and ambitious individual with a strong interest in our research and laboratory environment. Interest in working with junior lab members and undergraduates. Preferred candidates will have experience working with GWAS in COPD and other pulmonary diseases.
