General Atomics Principal Full Stack Machine Learning Engineer in Charlottesville, Virginia
GA-CCRi was founded in 1989 and is located in Charlottesville, VA. It provides custom software development and innovative information engineering solutions to customers in government and private industry. We build and develop best-in-class all domain and globally focused situational awareness capabilities that process petabytes of data from numerous streaming data sources in near real time. We are seeking a versatile and highly skilled Principal Full Stack Machine Learning Engineer to join our innovative team. This role requires not only technical proficiency but also the ability to transform customer insights into cutting-edge solutions. You will lead projects from research and prototyping through full production, ensuring impactful delivery and seamless customer interaction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
End-to-End Development:
Architect, design, develop, test, and deploy scalable applications across the technology stack.
Integrate robust back-end systems with responsive front-end interfaces for optimal user experiences.
Data Science Integration:
Work with large datasets to derive actionable insights and guide feature development.
Build and deploy machine learning models to enhance product functionality and decision-making capabilities.
Collaborate with data scientists to transform algorithms and research into production-ready systems.
Customer-Focused Innovation:
Partner with customers to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements in workflows and solutions.
Incorporate customer feedback into system enhancements, prioritizing usability and impact.
Research and Prototyping:
Explore emerging technologies and methodologies to inform product development and drive innovation.
Rapidly prototype new ideas to validate concepts before committing to full-scale builds.
Production Expertise:
Design and maintain highly available systems that deliver real-time data insights and scalable performance.
Manage production pipelines, including debugging, performance tuning, and system monitoring.
Team Leadership:
Mentor team members in best practices for software engineering, data handling, and end-to-end delivery.
Foster a collaborative environment to drive technical excellence and knowledge sharing.

Job Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD in data science, applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related technical/quantitative discipline from an accredited institution and progressive data science experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, seven or more years of experience with a master's degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
Willing to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance with CI Poly.
Technical Expertise:
Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or similar) and frameworks (e.g., React, Django, Node.js).
Expertise in data science tools and libraries, including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, or similar.
Strong grasp of databases, RESTful APIs, data pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Data Science Focus:
Extensive experience working with data pipelines, exploratory analysis, and model deployment.
Knowledge of statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and real-world applications.
Experience deploying and managing production-level machine learning models.
Customer Orientation:
Outstanding communication skills to articulate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to collaborate closely with customers to create tailored solutions that address their needs.
Production and Operations:
Proven experience developing and supporting robust systems in live production environments.
Strong debugging skills and a proactive approach to problem resolution.
