University of Virginia Neuropathologist - Pathology in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia (UVA), Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks applications for an academic Neuropathologist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the tenure-eligible clinician-investigator track. The successful candidate will have strong skills in diagnostic neuropathology, teaching, and research. Candidates will be expected to have developed a basic and/or translational research program with a focus in neurodegenerative disorders. An important part of the position is acting as a Neuropathology Core Leader for an NIH P30 Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center application.This will include the creation of a neurodegenerative disease brain bank linked to extensive clinical and neuroimaging databases. The applicant will actively participate in multidisciplinary conferences related to neurodegenerative disorders with frequent communication and collaboration with both clinical and basic research colleagues. The candidate will report to Director of the Division of Anatomic Pathology. Candidates must hold M.D., D.O., or M.D. / Ph.D. degrees and have, or be eligible for, a medical license in the State of Virginia. Individuals must be Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology with subspecialty board certification in Neuropathology. The Neuropathology service includes the annual examination of over 1000 surgical specimens (including adult and pediatric tumors, epilepsy, muscle and nerve, ophthalmic, and inflammatory/infectious) and approximately 200 brain autopsy examinations. The Department contains a state-of the-art Molecular Diagnostics Division that works closely with the diagnostic Neuropathology Service. There is an active Division of Experimental Pathology and an associated Ph.D.-granting program (Molecular and Cellular Basis of Disease) in which many faculty members participate, either as Principal Investigator or Clinical Mentor/Collaborator. UVA research centers of excellence include the NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the cross-institutional Neuroscience Graduate Program, and the Brain Immunology and Glia Center.
