University of Virginia Inpatient Psychiatry Mental Health Technician 3-4 (MHT) in Charlottesville, Virginia

Responsible for providing a variety of patient care duties and unit support functions under the supervision of a Medical Center professional on an inpatient psychiatric unit. Assists with the orientation and development of new Patient Care Assistants on an inpatient psychiatric unit.

  • Assists professional healthcare staff with patient procedures.

  • Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.

  • Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and contributes to and assists with the professional development of others.

  • Performs unit support activities as needed and directed by manager or designee.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $16.97 - $26.30 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent. Associate's degree in psychology, social sciences, or humanities preferred.

Experience: Documented proof of 4 years of experience caring for patients in an inpatient psychiatric setting, a Community Service Board, or equivalent as a direct care provider. Experience requirement waived if individual holds an Associate's Degree or higher.

Licensure: Current active CNA certification through the Virginia Board of Nursing or AAPT Certification as follows: Successful completion of Basic and Level 2 exams by end of probationary period and Level 3 exam by 9th month of employment. Failure to do so will result in a performance management program and may result in a reduction of level to highest certification level achieved or termination of position. BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires frequently bending/stooping/traveling. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
