University of Virginia Director, Cardiovascular Service Line Business Operations in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Director of Service Line Business Operations partners with the Service Line Administrator and Physician Leadership for the strategic design and execution of comprehensive business development plans that cater to the intricate needs of the Service Line’s patient population. The position holds a pivotal responsibility in steering the service line to achieve financial and operational excellence. Moreover, the director may extend their oversight to administrative functions, ensuring seamless integration with clinical operations and an elevated patient experience.

Business Development and Strategic Planning:

  • Partner with the SL Administrator to conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to identify growth opportunities, competitive trends, and emerging patient needs within the service line.

  • Execute plans to drive growth, market expansion, and revenue generation for the service line, aligning with the overall organizational goals.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including clinical leaders, strategy office, finance, marketing, and operations teams, to develop business cases and feasibility studies for new programs, services, and partnerships.

  • Support service line leadership with data to help evaluate and prioritize potential strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and collaborations that can enhance the service line's capabilities and broaden its reach.

  • Monitor industry dynamics, healthcare regulations, and reimbursement policies to proactively identify risks and opportunities, providing strategic guidance to adapt to the evolving healthcare landscape.

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators related to business development efforts, such as patient volume, market share, referral patterns, and financial performance, and develop strategies to drive continuous improvement.

Financial Analysis and Performance Monitoring:

  • Conduct financial analysis and forecasting for the service line, including revenue and expense analysis, budgeting, and financial modeling.

  • Monitor and evaluate key financial metrics, such as revenue, expenses, profitability, and return on investment, to assess the financial performance of the service line.

  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization, revenue enhancement, and operational efficiency improvements within the service line.

  • Collaborate with finance and revenue cycle teams to ensure coding, billing, and reimbursement processes, and address any financial or coding-related issues.

  • Prepare regular financial reports and presentations for senior leadership, highlighting the financial performance and key performance indicators of the service line.

  • Analyze market trends, reimbursement changes, and regulatory developments to anticipate potential financial impact and develop strategies to mitigate risks or leverage opportunities.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Foster a collaborative and cross-functional approach by actively engaging with clinical leaders, department heads, and other senior leaders to align goals and objectives.

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the access and business teams, promoting a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and professional growth.

  • Partner with the SL Administrator to collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop effective communication strategies and materials to promote the service line's services and achievements.

  • Facilitate and participate in interdisciplinary meetings, committees, and workgroups to drive collaborative initiatives and quality improvement efforts.

  • Represent the service line at conferences, industry events, and networking opportunities to enhance visibility, build relationships, and stay updated on industry best practices.

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to a team staff members, ensuring their professional growth and success. Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and promote a positive work environment that fosters teamwork and continuous learning.

Position Compensation Range: $102,835.20 - $164,528.00 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree must be obtained within 4 years of hire or transfer.

Experience: 7 -10 years of progressive leadership experience demonstrating expertise in finance or business development within the healthcare industry.

Licensure: None required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
