University of Virginia Assistant or Associate Professor in Charlottesville, Virginia
UVA School of Medicine is seeking a Molecular Biologist with a strong background in genome engineering for a position of the Director of Genetically Engineered Murine Model (GEMM) Core. The core Director will be expected to work closely with the Associate Dean for Research Infrastructure and the Office of Research Core Administration to ensure integration of the GEMM Core with other institutional research resources as well as the effective and efficient management of the core. Director will be responsible for preparation of genetically engineered mouse models for UVA researchers.
Primary job duties include:
· Providing leadership and day-to-day operation of the core’s service laboratory
· Providing genome engineering services to UVA researchers
· Developing and applying technological advancement to core services
· Responsible for operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
· The successful candidate is expected to rigorously follow all guidelines and regulations regarding animal research
· Drafting grant applications for the acquisition of instrumentation
· Consulting with investigators in research design and drafting text for publications and grant applications
Skills and Abilities Required:
Must be organized and meticulous in record keeping
Strong English verbal and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to collaborate with a variety of highly motivated researchers from various disciplines.
Excellent interpersonal skills are required
Motivated to learn new skills in a research
General computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Skills and Abilities Strongly Preferred:
Two to five years’ experience beyond graduate training. Postdoctoral training will suffice for experience depending on the expertise and skills acquired during the training period.
Strong background in molecular biology and genome engineering technologies including CRISPR
Extensive animal research experience
Comprehensive skills for microinjection and manipulation of embryos
· Advanced degree Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology or related field
