Synchrony VP, Cloud Governance Lead in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Cloud Governance Leader is responsible for first line of defense risk management and governance for the CTO Cloud technologies. This role has responsibility for risk identification and remediation, participation in all audits and exams pertaining to the cloud, as well as risk identification and evaluation of the cloud technology related to the cloud migration. The Cloud Governance Lead will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide strategic direction, and ensure alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Monitor business strategy and industry trends to proactively identify and address emerging risks (e.g. risks from business growth and integration ) impacting the Public Cloud environment.

  • Lead risk identification, risk mitigation/remediation and perform risk assessment pertaining to migrating to the cloud.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and internal policies.

  • Lead first line surveillance to ensure control compliance.

  • Provide issue status and reporting to senior leaders. Drive issue/action quality and timely completion with Issue/Action Owners, including documentation.

  • Work with management to establish risk mitigation strategies and provide guidance on control enhancement to ensure key risks are appropriately managed.

  • Participate in (lead when necessary) regulatory exams, Internal Audits, 2nd line of defense reviews, PCI exam, etc.

  • Proactive preparation prior to exam starts: Lead risk assessment to identify, evaluate and prioritize risk treatment.

  • Facilitate requests and/or walk thru presentations.

  • Provide status of exam.

  • Support MRA delivery as needed.

  • Collaborate with process owners to assess controls as part of the RCSA process, and identify any gaps in process, risk, and control documentation.

  • Prepare and present updates to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders on the status of risk management activities.

  • Provide feedback and collaborate with Tech & Ops teams on relevant governance documents to support first line activities and manage risk.

  • Continuously evaluate and enhance governance processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Monitor the performance of the cloud governance program and compliance efforts.

  • Develop and present regular reports on governance performance, metrics, and improvement opportunities to senior leadership.

  • Ensure employees are informed and educated on cloud governance requirements and responsibilities.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in a cloud governance or engineering role; OR in lieu of a degree, 12+ years of experience in cloud governance roles.

  • Experience with Cloud technology; assessing risk, remediation, and/or control execution.

  • Proven experience in cloud governance, compliance, or similar roles.

  • Strong knowledge of cloud governance principles, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

  • Proficiency in cloud technologies and tools.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Highly Recommended AWS Certifications:

  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate

Additional AWS Certifications (optional based on the focus of the role)

  • AWS Certified Developer - Associate

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional

  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty

The salary range for this position is 130,000.00 - 210,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
