Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Facilities Management Department is seeking an outgoing motivated person to join our staff as a Recycling Technician.

The Recycling Technician supports the Recycling Department and its efforts to reduce waste, increase recycling, and maintain the cleanliness of campus by preforming duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Operate vehicles and equipment to help process materials (carts, trailers, pallet jacks, leaf blowers, etc.)

  • Perform the majority of the assigned job duties outside for housing and in park decks.

  • Collect materials and data associated with recyclables and landfill.

  • Report, prepare, and transport diverted materials to designated locations.

  • Ensure that materials are properly sorted and free from contaminants.

  • Maintain neat, clean, orderly and safe equipment and collection locations.

  • Provides backup in other areas as assigned.

Minimum Experience / Education:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, one year of experience demonstrating the ability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of recycling processes.

  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment such as carts, trailers, and pallet jacks.

  • Ability to report, prepare, and transport materials to designated locations.

  • Ability to collect materials and data associated with recyclables and landfill.

  • Ability to perform a majority of the work outside in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language ( reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required.

  • Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communications.

  • Computer literate. Knowledge and skilled with Google Chrome, Microsoft Office, and willingness to learn new programs.

  • Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.

  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.

  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
