Job title: Production Supervisor – Large Generator Rotors

A Snapshot of Your Day

The 2nd shift (Mon. – Fri., 4pm - Midnight) Production Supervisor for Large Generator Rotor Operations leads a diverse team of machinists, rotor winders, rotor assemblers, and balancers to manufacture and service large generator rotors. You will start your day an hour prior to shift start to perform a turnover with the 1st shift supervisor. You then compare the current production status against the production schedule to determine priorities and develop job assignments for your employees. At start of shift, you meet with your team. You talk through a safety topic to reinforce our Zero Harm culture, discuss the production status, verbally give the employees their job assignments, and finally discuss shift goals. Throughout the day you demonstrate servant leadership by removing roadblocks and obstacles for your team, participating hands-on with production when needed, and coaching your employees. You monitor and control production, making workforce and priority adjustments as needed. Ultimately, you are responsible for managing your team and ensuring productivity aligns with the production plan.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Ensure safe work practices are followed by all manufacturing personnel. Inform the employees of deficiencies and violations and take corrective action, if necessary, to ensure that procedures and practices are being followed. Assist in maintaining OSHA compliance on the shop floor, ensuring safety is a top priority in all aspects of the business.

  • Study daily operating results, meet daily with employees, and consult with peers on solutions to production problems. Ensure that problems have been corrected. Maintain cooperation between other shifts as well as other departments.

  • Ensure correct distribution of employees and assist with training for all new or transferred employees.

  • Coordinate temporary staff requirements.

  • Authorize and evaluate the overtime requirement for production employees.

  • Assist in mediation of personnel problems and conduct disciplinary action when required.

  • Monitor customer production requirements and coordinate schedule adjustments when required.

  • Monitor and ensure documentation of employee attendance records.

  • Evaluate production reports and metrics and make decisions that impact the results of the area of responsibility to established short- and long-range goals.

  • Responsible for reviewing performance against operating plans and standards.

  • Understand how to extract information contained in SAP (Quality notifications, drawing retrieval, line-up printing, material status, etc.)

  • Ensure Quality Control Instructions (QCIs) are completed and filled out correctly.

  • Motivate employees to hit or exceed hours targets and work with them to generate ideas to work more efficiently.

  • Monitor shop supplies purchases to make sure we are not wasteful and don't overrun targets.

  • Promote and lead continuous improvement by applying 5S methodology as a component of a Lean production system.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, an associate’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a high school degree with 8+ years of experience in manufacturing operations.

  • 2+ years of manager/supervisor/team lead experience is preferred

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles

  • Knowledge of large rotating equipment & manufacturing processes is a plus

  • Knowledge of machining processes & tools is a plus

About the Team

Our Large Generator Rotor Operations team is responsible for manufacturing large electric generator rotors weighing up to 275 tons. We operate within the Large Generator team to supply new 150 – 1000 megawatt generators to power plants all over the world. In addition to manufacturing new rotors, we also service generator rotors by providing inspections, rewinds, modernizations, and upgrades.

Our Gas Services division offers low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
