Job Description

This role has multiple levels, open to candidates with 4+ years of related experience. The successful candidate will be hired for the level of the position that aligns with their experience.

The Institutional Client Group (ICG) at US Bank brings deep experience, focused support, and the full resources of the bank – from capital markets to payment services – to all of our institutional clients. It works with multiple product groups such as treasury management, deposits, commercial real estate, fixed income & capital markets and specialized finance groups to anticipate, fulfil financial needs and build financial confidence through strategic consulting.

We are looking for top notch data scientists to support the ICG and their product partners with hungry, curious and do-whatever-it-takes attitude. Our data scientist team is comprised of expert professionals who work independently . This position is responsible for leveraging expertise across multiple domains to harness data and develop machine learning and generative AI solutions that address business challenges. Key responsibilities include gathering, integrating, and analyzing large volumes of data, interpreting results and generating actionable insights, leveraging and applying machine learning and LLMs for specialized tasks.

Your day to day:

You will spend about 60% of your time conducting data-driven research and experiments to push the boundaries of data science and generative AI, improving model performance and applicability in various use cases. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, particularly in generative models, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning techniques. You get to work with leading ML and AI tools – both on-premises and in the cloud.

The other 40% of time will be spent on preparing use cases and data: diving deep into the complexities of large-scale banking relationships and finding opportunities to streamline work and improve performance. You’ll be joining a team tightly integrated with front line bankers and leaders and develop understanding of their challenges.

Key deliverables:

  • Engage with stakeholders, challenge assumptions and build industry leading solutions

  • Quickly learn complex B2B banking dynamics and design data science solutions that create competitive differentiation.

  • Delivery of advanced analytic solutions via modern ML/AI tools that prioritizes potential new leads to improve prospecting, data for deepening engagement within our existing client set, and reducing the risk of attrition.

  • Enable a data foundation that includes advanced analytic solutions for bankers that allows them to find, track and discover opportunities.

  • Exploring statistical analysis that could be applied to the data; Performing descriptive statistics, exploring datasets, building visualizations iteratively to explore and understand the data

  • Documenting calculations, code, and adhering to data management principles

  • Validating and testing data assets of others in the form of peer review

  • Research data assets from multiple disparate sources, applies various technologies find and move data assets for analysis, development of metrics, reports, and statistics.

  • Play an active role with IT engineers to ensure critical data is available, with quality in the proper platforms with clear SLAs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, engineering or applied mathematics, or equivalent work experience

  • Four to six years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline

  • Experience in developing machine learning models

  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL

  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)

  • Hands-on experience in fine-tuning large language models, developing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) applications and building intelligent AI agents

  • Excellent communication skills to support business consulting and collaboration with business partners

  • Experience working in an agile environment

Location Expectations

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $105,400.00 - $124,000.00 - $136,400.00
