About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and visionary Senior Director of Data Platform to lead the development and management of the organization’s enterprise data platform. The Senior Director will oversee the architecture, governance, and integration of data systems to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performing data infrastructure. This role is critical for driving data strategy, supporting business intelligence, and ensuring seamless access to data for analytics and decision-making across the company.
Responsibilities:
Data Platform Strategy and Leadership:
Define and drive the strategic direction for the enterprise data platform in alignment with business objectives and data strategy.
Lead the design, development, and management of a scalable and secure data platform that meets the current and future needs of the organization.
Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure data platform initiatives align with business priorities and operational initiatives.
Data Architecture and Engineering:
Oversee the architecture of data pipelines, data warehouses, data lakes, and data integration processes.
Lead the design of a robust, scalable data architecture that supports real-time and batch processing, advanced analytics, and AI/ML models, including generative AI.
Ensure the data platform is highly performant, with strong data quality, reliability, and security.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers, architects, and platform specialists, ensuring they have the tools and guidance necessary to deliver on projects.
Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the data platform team, promoting knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
Manage team resources, hiring, and professional development to build a world-class data engineering function.
Data Governance and Compliance:
Develop and implement data governance policies and processes to ensure data quality, security, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-171, GDPR, CCPA).
Work closely with the legal, compliance, and IT teams to enforce data privacy, security protocols, and access control across the platform.
Ensure that data governance frameworks are in place to monitor and maintain the integrity and accuracy of all enterprise data.
Collaboration with Business Units:
Act as the primary liaison between data platform teams and key business units, including operations, customer care, finance, claims, supply chain, and others, to understand and anticipate data needs.
Collaborate with data science and business intelligence teams to ensure the data platform supports advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and reporting.
Engage with cross-functional stakeholders to continuously optimize data processes, infrastructure, and solutions.
Technology and Vendor Management:
Evaluate and integrate new technologies, tools, and platforms that can improve the performance, scalability, and capabilities of the data platform.
Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure the data platform utilizes best-in-class technologies.
Oversee the management of cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, etc.) and collaborate with infrastructure leadership for on-premises data infrastructure.
Performance Optimization and Innovation:
Continuously monitor and improve the performance, scalability, and efficiency of the data platform.
Lead innovation in data processing, storage, and delivery to improve data accessibility and availability for real-time decision-making.
Implement best practices for data platform automation, including CI/CD pipelines, data deployment, and monitoring.
Budget and Resource Management:
Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and financial management for data platform operations.
Ensure that investments in data technologies and infrastructure are aligned with business outcomes and deliver a strong return on investment (ROI).
Qualification and Skill Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen due to contractual requirements.
Extensive experience in data architecture, data engineering, and platform management , with a track record of designing and scaling enterprise-level data platforms.
Strong expertise in data pipelines, ETL processes, data lakes, data warehouses , and real-time data processing .
Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Snowflake, Databricks).
Experience with data governance , security, and compliance frameworks.
Proven ability to lead and manage large, cross-functional teams with diverse technical skill sets.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills , with the ability to collaborate with business executives and technical teams.
Strong project management experience and the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology , or a related field.
10+ years of experience in data platform engineering, architecture, or related roles, with 5+ years of leadership experience .
Demonstrated success in building and scaling data platforms for large organizations.
Experience with AI/ML integration , advanced analytics platforms, and AWS GovCloud is highly desirable.
Preferred Tools/Technologies:
Proficient with data technologies such as SQL, Python, S3, Glue, and Snowflake .
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub, Terraform) , data observability tools, and data cataloging solutions.
Experience with data mesh architecture and distributed data systems .
