Job Purpose

Engineer/Mechanical Engineer serves as the College of Charlestons Facilities Management department mechanical engineer to provide expertise for issues involving the campus building and infrastructure mechanical systems and equipment. Supports all departments in the Facilities Management division as needed to ensure campus building and utility mechanical systems perform effectively and efficiently. Applies engineering skills to modify or develop standards, methods and procedures to fit the needs of the College of Charleston. Continually evaluate mechanical engineering problems and recommend effective corrective action. Responsible for providing recommendations in the development of a mechanical system capital renewal program including participation and oversite of building audits and inspections. Provide recommendations in design of campus building automation system and mechanical system sequence of operation. Oversee coordinating mechanical construction and renovation of existing and new facilities. Develops standards for equipment specifications, drawings commissioning specific to the needs of the College of Charleston. Review all projects with Mechanical scope of work for compliance with these requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years work experience inHVACand mid-level mechanical engineering required. Masters degree preferred.CEFPpreferred.LEEDAccreditation preferred. Experience with facility contract administration related to A and E and/or public arenas (Federal, State, County agencies) preferred.

Must be knowledgeable of all mechanical codes,OSHAsafety requirements/regulations and work practices relevant to mechanical fields.

Must have valid SC drivers license as the employee will be required to drive state vehicles to transport equipment and/or personnel as needed.

Experience in utilizing on-line work order systems is a plus. Skill with electronic devices such as iPhone and iPad is preferred. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with high-ranking college officials, department heads, general work force, A and E, contractors, and other persons directly involved with projects. Must have knowledge of principals of building design, construction and materials necessary to repair and maintain College facilities. Must have knowledge of planning techniques, estimating costs and scheduling of assets to meet deadlines. Ability to prepare and present comprehensive reports or plans pertaining to an effective long-range maintenance and repair program for the College. Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel, AcrobatPDF. AutoCAD proficiency preferred.

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. All employees at the College are expected to perform their jobs in a safe manner in accordance with best safety practices as prescribed by their department, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration training as provided by Facilities Management at the College of Charleston.
