Actalent Land Survey Technician in Charleston, South Carolina

Job Title: Land Survey TechnicianJob Description

We are looking for a driven and hard-working candidate with some experience as a surveyor. You will aid and work alongside the survey party crew chief on numerous projects in South Carolina, including DOT, Commercial, Federal, Government, Industrial, Power Companies, Warehouses, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes that affect the survey.

  • Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and organize work efforts.

  • Ensure the standard of work performed and derive necessary field calculations from completed tasks.

  • Supervise the maintenance of instruments and equipment.

  • Ensure collected information, such as angles and distances, is accurate and conforms to regulations and standards.

  • Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others involved in projects.

  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to gather necessary data.

  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.

  • Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.

  • Complete daily logs and expense reports.

  • Ensure all crew members follow safety procedures and complete relevant safety forms.

  • Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.

  • Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and the use and care of survey tools and equipment.

  • Proficiency in operating survey equipment such as the Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various GPS methods.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • 0-1 years of surveying experience.

  • Good technical skills, including being process-oriented, steady, helpful, analytical, and a problem solver.

  • Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record, a cleared background check, and a negative drug test result.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Surveying experience is a plus.

  • Hard-working with great communication skills.

  • Experience with data collection, Total Station, land surveying, topography, and construction stakeout.

Work Environment

Some overnight travel may be required. The role involves a lot of walking outside year-round through various terrains and extreme weather conditions. The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM, with overtime depending on project load. On average, surveyors work 50-60 hours a week. You will report to the Charleston office daily to meet with the surveying team and be allocated to projects. The role involves about 50% travel. You must be willing to travel as necessary. Physical requirements include the ability to work in environments with venomous snakes and insects, stand for long periods, work in a range of temperatures, climb hills, walk long distances, traverse different terrains, lift and carry up to 75 lbs, and interact both verbally and in writing.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00
