Job Summary

The Charles River Labs Microbial Solutions team based in Charleston, SC is seeking an Automation Software Engineer 1.

This position is onsite and is not a remote based role.

Job Summary

As an Automation Software Engineer in the R&D department you will be responsible for designing, architecting, developing, documenting, testing and debugging software for new automation products.

This role collaborates with Systems Engineers, Hardware Engineers, Testers, Project Managers and Product Managers while working on the Product Development team.

Ensures that best practices are used, that modern and effective technologies are employed, and that requirements are properly interpreted and met.

You will work as an active member of a software development team, interacting often with peers, to ensure the correct work is being done and that quality standards are met.

This role supports products after they have been launched, ensuring that customer issues can be resolved.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain desktop and web based software.

  • Integrate new hardware interfaces into software solutions.

  • Create and maintain software technical documentation.

  • Analyze requirements and give feedback to product managers.

  • Create automated unit tests and document any developer testing that is done.

  • Troubleshoot software issues reported from the field to find root causes and solutions.

  • Deeply understand customer needs and take full ownership of the product.

  • Proactively look to opportunities for improvement in process and tools used for development.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent Engineering skillset and work experience in Software Engineering.

Experience

  • Entry level position, but experience in the Software Engineering field is preferred.

  • Experience working on a software development team and launching software products.

  • Prior automation expertise is preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • JavaScript/TypeScript and C# programming experience.

  • Experience with .NET Core and the .Net Framework.

  • Experience with React.js

  • Experience with Git source control and Visual Studio.

  • Expereince with SQL databases.

  • Front end application development experience (WPF, WinForms).

  • Some additional programming ability (VB.Net, Python) is preferred.

  • Strong Linux background is a plus.

  • Great debugging skills, able jump into code to debug production issues.

  • Strong communication skills, able to clearly and succinctly describe complex technical issues.

  • Experience with robotics is a plus.

Compensation The pay range for this position starts at 86,600 - 92,000K annually USD. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, job level, education, and location.
