Job Summary:

The Director of Program Management provides program management leadership and coordinates all activities of the Solution Program Management function. The primary responsibility is the

development of a strong and consistent Program Management discipline responsible for planning, directing and ensuring the successful management of designated projects utilizing the resources of the PM group and assigned project teams. Directs and oversees the PM group to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to high quality standards, and meet customer expectations. Develops, implements, and ensures compliance to PM group and Crane processes and policies and partners with other department leaders (Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, etc.) to define, prioritize, and deliver key projects and programs.

The Director supports continuous process improvement by identifying, evaluating, and developing

project management methods and procedures that are efficient, effective and world class business practice. The PM Director maintains excellent communications with upper management to ensure clear stakeholder communication for project performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Drive strategic management of programs and projects to ensure that they are aligned to the customer needs and organizational business goals

  • Manage and direct the PM group intellectual capital. Responsible for the selection, hiring,training, assignment, professional development and evaluation of the Program Managers within the PM group; build a strong team with complementary strengths; provide for staff continuity; and form the right structures and teams

  • Provide leadership, direction, and coaching on project-specific tasks to promote Program Manager skills refinement and professional development

  • Work at multiple organizational levels within Crane, with our external customers, and with suppliers, to understand overall requirements, establish expectations, and achieve customer satisfaction

  • Plan and prioritize work and activities to meet commitments. Hold self, team and organization accountable to meet commitments

  • Analyze resource requirements and constraints to recommend project staffing; create and maintain staffing plans to support current and future work demands and project deliverables

  • Responsible for overall PM group and engineering financial management activities including forecasting, project cost accounting, and management of engineering sales in partnership with Finance

  • Drive adherence to requirements management and change management processes during project readiness and execution phases. Support customer and supplier claims submittal and negotiation process

  • Ensure necessary and appropriate steps are taken to resolve difficulties which may impede progress or compromise achievement of scheduled milestones. Support issue escalation within Crane and at the customer. Assist in the resolution of resource conflicts across projects as needed

  • Present information on projects and initiatives to peers, teams, and key stakeholders to ensure projects are defined, tracked, and communicated in a consistent and effective manner. Ensure effective program management communication of requirements for project implementation across the site and with key stakeholders

  • Develop, implement, and maintain metrics to evaluate PM group performance; report and track against defined KPI’s. Lead periodic reviews of key projects and monitor project progress. Present program status to Executive management

  • Support preparation of customer bid packages and internal project appropriation requests including coordination and review of statement of work, engineering cost estimates, and program schedules. Evaluate the ability to execute projects to meet customer needs within organizational constraints and anticipated risks

  • Responsible for the flow down, training, coordination, and execution of standard work and policies

  • Lead PM group integration of process improvement, implementation of best practices, and effective capture and incorporation of lessons learned into the PM standards to continuously improve and grow the capability of program managers. Work in conjunction with the PM Continuous Process Improvement Team (PMCPIT) to identify, implement and ensureconsistency in application and compliance to newly developed procedures and methods

  • Provide project management support, templates, and feedback to non-PM group resources

  • Assume additional responsibilities as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10 + years’ experience in Program/Project Management or related management type position. 5 + years’ experience in managing and leading teams.

  • Knowledge: Expert in Program Management philosophies and processes. Possess sufficient technical aptitude to understand design and production processes within an aerospace environment.

  • Skills/Abilities: Excellent Leadership and Management Skills, Results Focus, Customer Service Orientation, Action Orientation, Planning & Organizing, Teamwork & Cooperation, Business Acumen, Decision-Making Skills; Proficiency in Microsoft Project and other PC based office tools.

  • Strong experience in internal and external stakeholder engagement and communications, both written and verbal. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Proven business process management skills including planning, organizational, budgeting, and time management skills.

  • Superior project management skills, including the ability to execute and prioritize a number of tasks simultaneously and demonstrated experience managing cross functional teams.

  • Proven ability to make timely and sound decisions; able to make decisions under conditions of uncertainty.

  • Proven negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building skills.

  • Education/Certification: Bachelor Level degree in Engineering or technical discipline.

  • Eligibility Requirement: This position requires access to controlled data or information and therefore only US persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants selected could be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Program Management Institute PMP Certification.

  • Some experience in a technical field preferred, preferably aerospace.

  • MBA or comparable advanced management degree

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment

  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE

  • Travel up to 10%
