St. Joseph County ISD Diesel Technician in Centreville, Michigan
POSITION GOAL:
Determine needed repairs and/or replacements on a vehicle and equipment, ensuring the availability of vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition; and providing written documentation of repairs to meet district, state and federal requirements.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnoses potential vehicle and equipment malfunctions for the purpose of determining needed repairs and/or replacements.
- Executes preventative maintenance programs for the purpose of maintaining vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition including Nottawa School Bus Fleet, as needed.
- Maintains tools, equipment and shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe work area.
- Work with Vendors for the purpose of ordering and maintain parts inventory, including reconciling invoice billing.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. repairs, maintenance records, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or information to comply with regulating guidelines.
- Repairs vehicle and equipment systems/components, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition.
- Replaces defective vehicle and equipment parts/systems for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition.
- Inspects vehicles for the purpose of ensuring conformance to proper standards.
- Available to respond to emergency situations on or after regular work hours (e.g. road side bus service, contact wrecker for tow, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Substitutes for bus driver when needed for the purpose of ensuring a qualified person is able to run the bus on the route.
- Assist Maintenance Department as needed.
- Take all necessary steps and opportunities to improve skills as a mechanic.
- Assist and/or work on local district bus fleet, as directed by the Transportation Supervisor.
All other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
