Maryland Department of Health Office Secretary I in Centreville, Maryland

The main purpose of this position is to be the first point of contact (either phone or walk-in) for clients, professionals and individuals from the public and other agencies seeking health department services or conducting business with the QACHD. The position must constantly use independent judgment while making a good first impression for the agency. This position will also promote and protect Queen Annes Countys citizens by providing administrative support including file room clerk duties and processing incoming and outgoing mail daily for the administration and other core programs such as Communicable Disease and Family Planning at the QACHD. This position also provides necessary administrative support within assigned programs to ensure the efficiency of these departments daily operations and to meet mandated requirements.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

  1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

  2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience.

  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services Specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

The desired candidate should possess the following:

  1. Experience answering calls on a multi line phone system in a health care setting.

  2. Spanish/English bilingual skills.

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on akeyboard ofa personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
