What You Will Do: In this accounting internship, you will have the opportunity to work along Transamerica team members on business-required/necessary projects. Opportunities are available within Corporate Tax, Internal Audit, Expense Reporting, Finance Operations, and more! This position allows you to take your classroom knowledge and apply it. If you’re self-driven and able to see opportunity in change, you can make a difference within our business. You will report to a manager and build relationships with key leaders and team members in all areas of finance.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Working collaboratively with other interns, accounting/finance/analytic team members, and across teams and departments:

  • Perform professional finance/accounting work involving compilation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data. May include any or all the following: fixed asset or inventory accounting; preparation of tax returns or tax reporting; preparation of trial balance or financial statements, financial analysis including budgeting & forecasting.

  • Ensures the accounting transactions are recorded accurately and timely.

  • Reconciles, investigates, corrects, and adjusts accounting information in accordance with aggressive deadlines.

  • Prepares financial statements and/or work papers for multiple accounting bases.

  • Uses multiple financial systems and/or sophisticated reporting tools to produce a variety of analyses.

  • Proactively identifies unique problems, such as reconciliation/posting issues, and seeks help to resolve, if necessary.

  • Project work as needed in other multiple bases of accounting and financial reporting.

  • Responsible for adherence to the company's framework of internal controls.

What You Will Learn: In this role, you will gain exposure to Transamerica’s rich culture, while working in one of the following departments: Corporate Tax, Internal Audit, Expense Reporting, or Finance Operations.

What You Need:

  • To qualify for internship, applicants must be currently enrolled full-time at a college or university pursuing a specific degree program. Internships are not available for students who have completed their college education or who will graduate prior to the conclusion of the internship.

  • Strong written & verbal communications communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Detailed-oriented.

  • Reliable, dependable.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid work environment; ability to work in person at the Cedar Rapids, IA office approximately 2 times per week.

  • Candidates must be able to work 40 hours/week during the 16 week internship program.
