TRIO Educational Talent Search Advisor

 

Serve as Advisor to the TRIO Educational Talent Search Program participants at Valley High School, Kanab Middle School, Kanab High School, Fredonia High School, and Fredonia Elementary School. The program serves low-income, first-generation students in grades 6-12 in Beaver, Iron, Kane Counties in Utah, and in the town of Fredonia, AZ. The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assists participants with the postsecondary application process. The goal of TRIO Educational Talent Search is to increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Serve as ETS advisor to participants at PHS,MHS,BHS, and Minersville School. Provide guidance to successfully complete middle school and high school and enroll into a postsecondary institution. Prepare and carry-out college and career readiness curriculum to distribute and/or present to program participants.

• Orient participants, target school personnel, residents, and community organizations with the TRIO ETS Program.

• Maintain and update all student records in accordance with federal guidelines.

• Conduct postsecondary institution visits and other college-going events.

• Collaborate with target school and school district administration.

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

• 4-year/Bachelors Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.

• Must live in Target area (Kane County or Fredonia, AZ).

• Record of successful work with low-income and academically disadvantaged students.

• Proven ability to work independently.

• Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

• Knowledge of practices and procedures in student guidance counseling and college financial aid programs.

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, administrators, parents, and community members.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Desire to be creative and motivate others to higher academic achievement.

• Prior experience working with a TRIO Program or other college access programs preferred.

• Previous participation as a TRIO Program participant preferred.
