Iron County EXCAVATOR OPERATOR - INSPECTOR in CEDAR CITY, Utah
Iron County is accepting applications for Engineer Excavator Operator - Inspector. We are seeking a qualified applicant to fill one position.
JOB SUMMARY
Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties to excavate and inspect new construction sites, maintenance, and emergency mitigation of Iron County Engineer projects. Operates excavation heavy equipment, which may include a backhoe, dump truck, front end loader, rollers, lowboy, trucks, grader, distributer, dozer, snowplow, mower, sprayer and other equipment used in transporting vehicles and equipment to job sites. Read plans and specifications for flood channels and other Iron County facilities. Construct and maintain flood channels in designated areas. Construct and/or improve conditions of Iron County outdoor park facilities, parking lots, roads, bridges, canals, and other facilities and/or systems. Improve and build fencing along roadways and flood channels. Coordinate with independent contractors on Iron County projects and serve as the project inspector. Coordinate and work with the Iron County Road Department as needed. Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs to equipment. Communicate and deal with the public courteously and effectively. Assist in negotiations and preparations of legal descriptions for rights-of-way. Assists the public with general information regarding the Iron County Engineer Department. Performs other duties as needed and/or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent AND Five (5) years' experience with general construction and the operation and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment.
Valid UTAH CDL - You must have this to be eligible for hire
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must have and maintain a valid Utah CDL License (Class A).
Complete physical as required to maintain UDOT certification.
Attend any required training seminars when scheduled.
Random drug testing according to UDOT guidelines.
Knowledge of mechanical applications; surveying and construction principles and/or applications; survey stakeout procedures; fencing and rights-of-way; basic mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry.
Skill in operating hand tools; operating heavy equipment; operating road construction machinery; customer service and public relations; basic computer applications (i.e. word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, etc.); road construction methods and techniques; work zone regulations.
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities; work unsupervised and accept responsibility for actions; communicate effectively with staff and public; use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations; plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities; communicate via radio; read blueprints, plans and specifications.
