Marathon Petroleum Corporation Refining Analytical & Development (RAD) Pilot Plant Process Area Technician in Catlettsburg, Kentucky

POSITION SUMMARY:

This Technician position is full-time with responsibilities for maintaining and operating all Pilot Plant process area equipment in coordination with the Engineers/Chemists assigned to this area. Additional responsibility may include assisting other labs as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow applicable safety procedures.

  • Operate and maintain various Pilot Plant units and analytical instruments used to support the daily operation of the process area.

  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on equipment, including catalyst loading/unloading, bending/installing piping, pump rebuilds, and valve/gauge calibration/installation.

  • Perform tasks with strict adherence to standard operating procedures, generating consistent, highly accurate, timely, and defensible results.

  • Forklift operation. Training and certification will be provided.

  • Have a basic understanding of refinery processes and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Communicate effectively with others.

  • Adhere to established quality control protocols.

  • Maintain good housekeeping.

  • Demonstrate ethics and integrity in all aspects of the job.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Weekend coverage and shiftwork possible depending on project priority .

  • Overtime can be expected at up to 20%.

  • Minimal travel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A High School Diploma or GED with 2+ years of maintenance and/or unit operations experience, an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences – Chemical/Refinery Plant Operator degree, and/or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or similar field with four Chemistry courses and two Chemistry labs is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date).

  • Pilot Plant and/or Process Unit experience is preferred, but not required; A course in Analytical Chemistry and familiarity with Honeywell operating systems is also preferred.

  • A driver’s license is required.

  • The ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is also required.
