Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Pre-School Teacher in Cass Lake, Minnesota

Division: Education Reports to: Team Leader Worksite: Head Start Work Hours: M TH, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm & F, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm LLBO Status: Non-exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes License/Certification Requirements; Valid driver's license is preferred. CPR and First Aid certification or attain within introductory period (90 days). Summary: This position is responsible to work as a team to ensure the safety of children and that the classrooms contribute to the growth and development of each child. Duties/responsibilities: Be familiar with and comply current Head Start Performance Standards, Early Childhood Policies and Procedures and the Leech Lake Child Care licensing requirements. Complete student records and reports accurately, including individual student progress information data entry, (TSG) updates, observations, and incidents/accident reports Step and Cultural Curriculum). Using the information from TSG reports and creative curriculum for planning within the classroom including the environment, indoor and outdoor activities. Assist with preparation of weekly lesson plans, material needs, monthly newsletters, etc. Plan appropriate activities based on each individual child's needs. Utilize developmentally appropriate phrases and guidance. Effectively mainstream children with special needs into the program and utilize Developmentally Appropriate Practices & guidance. Maintain a healthy, emotional climate in the classroom setting. Promote and include culture and language into the classroom and into the home, including sign language. Assist in conducting Parent/Teacher conferences twice a year. Assure parent information is given on bus route for prompt distribution. Work cooperatively as a team member and promote teamwork with co-workers. Communicate effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of services provided Continually seek on-going career development and have an Individual Professional Development plan in place. Follow the recommendations of Team Leader when program improvement is needed. Promote the Head Start philosophy among staff, parents and community. Assist with transportation of children to and from Head Start centers as required. Attend program activities outside normal working hours. Ensure supervision of all children at all times especially during outside, bathroom and tooth brushing. Attend other meetings, training sessions, workshops, classes and conferences to improve job performance. Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times. Assist in keeping classroom sanitary, organized and inviting. Adhere to policies governing staff conduct Attend EP meetings. All other related duties as assigned by supervisor Be willing to assist in appropriate program changes annually. Promote Head Start School Readiness Goals in lesson plans and daily activities. Implement the Creative Curriculum and Ojibwe Curriculum into lesson plans and daily activities. Work with Education Program Manager, Mentor Coach/Practice Base Coach on recommendations to support strengths and weaknesses in the classroom and assist with corrective action plans that reflect the individual needs of staff and/or the team. Family Support Attend parent meetings. Conduct and document a minimum of 2 home visits annually, with additional home visits as necessary. Encourage parent participation in all aspects of the Head Start program and provide parent with volunteer tracking information. Work as a team to meet the needs of the families. Build relationships with families that will support their needs by sharing information on development concerns, child guidance and program plans. CACFP Assist Team Leader in ensuring the tally of the monthly attendance and meal counts are correct. Be knowledgeable in CACFP meal service, meal pattern, and menu planning and family style service. Be knowledgeable in CACFP Food Chart, portion sizes and creditable meals. Attend CACFP annual training for key staff and refresher cours s as necessary. Be knowledgeable in CACFP Diet Statements and Parent Decline forms have on file for participants who cannot follow the meal pattern.
