Indian Health Service Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist in Cass Lake, Minnesota

Summary This position is located in the Radiology Service at the PHS Indian Health Service Hospital, Cass Lake, MN. The primary purpose of this position is to perform technical work in the field of diagnostic radiologic examinations. Incumbent will be required to be on a rotational on-call schedule in accordance with Radiology Service needs, which may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Responsibilities Manage the technical and administrative aspects of the radiology department. Receive patients, explains methods of procedures and positions and sets technical factors to attain a high quality radiograph. Perform all appropriate x-ray examinations, EKGs and other procedures performed in an outpatient ambulatory facility. Perform variety of routine to complex examinations to meet the needs of the medical staff. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Note: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. All applicants, however, must meet the requirements below. Specialized Experience For positions at GS-4 and above: Experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of radiologists or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and treatment. or Education and Training: Qualifying educational programs for radiography and radiation therapy technology are available in accredited colleges, universities, hospitals, medical schools, or postsecondary technical or vocational schools. Education or training from programs based in hospitals must have been from those hospitals that were accredited at the time of the education or training by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals or by the American Osteopathic Association. For GS-5: Successful completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months' duration in a post-high school radiography program. Successful completion of a course for medical radiologic technicians in the Armed Forces is qualifying on a month-for-month basis up to the l year of specialized experience required for GS-5. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications for GS-05: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 Grade Level OR 4-year course of study above the high school education level leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples include: Performing routine diagnostic radiographic procedures, including producing digital images of routine views of the body (i.e., chest, joints, feet, hands, long bones of arms and legs) under general supervision of a radiologist. Minimum Qualifications for GS-06: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Grade Level. Examples include: Performing a variety of difficult radiographic examinations; receiving patients, explaining method of procedures, positioning patients, selecting and setting technical factors, setting up and adjusting accessory equipment required and making exposures necessary for the requested procedure; performing procedures such as cholangiography, linear tomography, xerographic mammography, lumbar and thoracic myelography, bronchography, lymphangiograpy or femoral arteriography; setting up the x-ray room; assuring that sterile supplies contrast materials, catheters or other required equipment are present and laid out; preparing and administering contrast material orally, by enema, or, under close control of radiologist, intravenously; as required by procedure or patient's condition, monitoring vital signs such as heart beat and blood pressure and notifying radiologist of significant changes; performing examinations of head, trunk and extremities for routine physical examinations and for diagnosis of illness or of injuries of accident victims; assisting radiologist and higher grade technologists to perform more complex procedures such as carotid arteriograms. Minimum Qualifications for GS-07: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 Grade Level. Examples include: Performing a variety of difficult radiographic examinations; independently making routine radiographic examinations of head, trunk and extremities for diagnosis of illness or injuries; scheduling patients for examinations; maintaining logs of patients and procedures used; preparing file jackets on patients X-rays; requisition supplies; cleaning, oiling and making minor repairs and adjustments to x-ray equipment, accessories and automatic film processing machines; operating film processing machines; reviewing new developments in the field and recommending to the head of the clinic adoption of those which would improve the operation of the radiology section OR 1 full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education directly related to the work of the position. Minimum Qualifications for GS-08: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 Grade Level. Examples include: performing computerized axial tomographic scanning of heads and/or bodies; conferring with radiologist to establish requirements of standard examinations and determines technical factors, positioning, numbering and thickness cutting of scans etc, to satisfy requirement; advising radiologist or referring physicla of results of examination, providing preliminary diagnostic evaluation, notifying radiologist or referring physician of significant scans requiring their immediate attention and visualization while patient is undergoing examination; preparing contrast material under the direction of radiologic for purpose of performing procedure/exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystograms, cholangiograms, fistulagrams, arthograms and myelograms. Selective Placement Factor: Must have certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Computed Tomography for GS-08 grade. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption.
