Job Overview: The Millwright is responsible for performing quality and safe mechanical work. A Millwright installs machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishment using hoists, lift trucks, handouts, and power tools. Duties of a Millwright include, but are not limited to safety, quality, notifying the supervisor of material and equipment needs, performing skilled pump, turbine, compressor, and rotating equipment work.

Job Functions:

  • Practice safe work habits at all times and promote safety to others.

  • Strong working knowledge of and experience working with rotating equipment.

  • Perform quality work as determined by the project specifications.

  • Accountable for all assigned tools and materials at all times.

  • Assist immediate supervisor with future tasks to be completed.

  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.

  • Assist in assuring all required PCL and client Safety and QA/QC forms be completed and all necessary signatures secured.

  • Must have necessary tools, a list will be provided

  • Keep a clean work area.

  • Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.

  • Selects type and size of related materials according to the job specifications.

  • Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.

  • Prepares layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.

  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk, or marking gage.

  • Ensure proper permits have been obtained and can read & understand all permits.

  • Assemble and station tools and materials needed to optimal and safe place ready for use as required.

Qualifications:

Experience

Experience working as an Industrial Millwright or related field with four or more years of experience in the mechanical trades.

Skills

  • Adequate math knowledge and skills as related to the job tasks.

  • Able to effectively use verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to set, grout, and align pumps and motors.

  • Able to align shafts and install seals.

  • Understand tolerances (+/-) related to Millwright work and project specifications.

  • Working knowledge of lubrication and oil mist systems.

  • Able to check vibration on rotating equipment.

  • Able to use laser alignment equipment.

  • Able to read P&IDs.

  • Able to conduct a basic layout for equipment installation.

  • Able to read and understand safety instructions, signs, labels, and permits in English.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to climb or descend and keep balance on ladders, scaffolding, elevated structures, and stairways.

  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces above- or below-ground level, such as: towers, vessels, excavations, etc.

  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials without assistance. PCL policy recommends getting help to lift items over 50 lbs.
