Performing and directing the maintenance and repair of marine electrical systems on ferries, dredges, and related marine vessels. Employee is responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical systems of ferries and dredges operated by the Division of Ferries. Work involves participating in and supervising the installation, maintenance and repair of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits. Maintenance and repairs are performed without technical supervision; however, complex electrical repair problems may be performed under the general supervision of a maintenance supervisor and are reviewed and evaluated through the continued and reliable operation of all electrical systems and their ability to meet U.S. Coast Guard requirements.
Positions assist the chief engineer in the preparation and inspection of electrical repairs performed by outside contractors and during annual shipyard overhaul. This position also assists other entities in the Ferry Division and may require overnight travel. The employee must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. Performs all other related duties as required by the Supervisor.
The position generally works shift work – 7 days on and 7 days off but schedule may be altered at management’s discretion as well as assignment of routine daily duties. When working night shift, shift premium (10%) will be paid.
This position will work at the CEDAR ISLAND and OCRACOKE OPERATIONS.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT and Ferry Division’s drug and Fit-For-Duty tests.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in marine electrical and electro-mechanical systems maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
