Ford Motor Company Principal Diagnostics Engineer in Carson City, Nevada

The Digital Manufacturing Systems team is seeking a highly motivated Principal Diagnostics Engineer to help imagine, invent, and implement the technology used to manufacture the next generation of Ford vehicles.

A Principal Diagnostics Engineer plays a crucial role in a software engineering team as the bridge between stakeholders and the development team. Here are some common expectations of a Principal Engineer:

Define SRE Strategy for Manufacturing Embedded Systems: Role out a Site Reliability Engineering discipline to automate system management and application monitoring tasks. They also use software to solve problems and manage production systems.

Define and Communicate the Product Vision : Clearly articulate the vision and goals for the product, ensuring that all team members and stakeholders understand the project’s direction.

Align Processes and Capabilities with Stakeholders: Ensure that the Software Release Process is aligned between Product Development and Manufacturing.

Drive DfMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly)

Prioritize Features and Capabilities with Development Team : Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and prioritize user feature development based on technical feasibility and program timelines.

Collaborate with Stakeholders : Regularly engage with stakeholders, including customers, users, and business leaders, to gather feedback and ensure that their needs are being met.

Clarify Requirements : Provide detailed explanations and clarifications for user stories and acceptance criteria to ensure the development team understands what is expected.

Accept or Reject Work : Review completed work and determine whether it meets the acceptance criteria, accepting or rejecting features based on quality and completeness.

Education/Experience :

  • 15+ years of experience in Networking, Cloud, and System Operations in mission-critical Environments

  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale, complex projects and programs.

  • BSE/BSC or higher.

  • Experience in Automotive Diagnostics, Flashing or OTA

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including software developers and other stakeholders.

Technical Skills :

  • Deep understanding of DevOps and SRE practices in mission-critical critical scenarios.

  • Familiarity with software engineering tools and technologies.

Leadership and Management Skills :

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Communication Skills :

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Project Management Skills :

  • Proficiency in project management tools and techniques.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Interpersonal Skills :

  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with a diverse group of people across different functions.

Industry Knowledge :

  • Automotive Manufacturing and Assembly Experience.

  • Understanding the industry or domain in which the company operates can be particularly valuable.
