Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced GIS Architect to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in leading the migration of ArcGIS Enterprise infrastructure from on-premise environments to an Azure cloud platform. The ideal candidate will be adept in designing and implementing cloud-native architectures for GIS solutions, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and optimized for high performance.

Job Description

We are looking for a GIS Architect to lead the migration of ArcGIS Enterprise infrastructure from on-premise environments to an Azure cloud platform. This position will be full-time and remote.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess current GIS infrastructure, identify cloud opportunities, and recommend best-fit cloud solutions.

  • Design and implement cloud-native architecture for GIS solutions, focusing on scalability, security, and performance optimization.

  • Lead the migration of ArcGIS Enterprise infrastructure from on-premise environments to an Azure cloud platform.

  • Security hardening to include ensuring that the environment is designed and configured to use a least-privileges security architecture with appropriate security policy, secret/key rotation, and auditability.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive cloud migration strategies, encompassing assessment, planning, migration, and post-migration support.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business goals and integration with existing systems.

  • Implement cloud cost management strategies and continuously optimize cloud resource utilization.

  • Ensure compliance with cloud security standards and enterprise policies throughout the design and migration process.

  • Contribute to design and development of DevOps automation scripts to streamline deployment, scaling, and maintenance of GIS services.

  • Provide technical leadership and training to GIS teams on cloud-based GIS tools, workflows, and best practices.

  • Participate in discovery of functional and non-functional requirements from key stakeholders.

  • Lead impact analysis, task/component breakdown, and estimation of large development efforts and technical upgrades.

  • Provide hands-on guidance and technical oversight to application development teams regarding effective solution design, development practices, DevSecOps, and framework use.

  • Execute Proofs of Concept (POCs) / Proofs of Technology (POTs).

  • Responsible for design and development work at a senior level.

  • Work directly with clients and lead development teams through the SDLC.

What You'll Need

Required:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject; or equivalent real-world experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in solutions and enterprise architecture, with a strong focus on cloud migration and GIS-based or integrated solutions.

  • Demonstrated Solution Architecture experience.

  • Proven experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.

  • Strong understanding of ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise infrastructure and Products.

  • Experience with ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and converting AGOL based applications to ArcGIS Enterprise, including the necessary considerations for functionality, performance, and system integration.

  • Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and middleware integrations (SOAP & REST/JSON services, MQ, DataPower, IBM ACE, etc.).

  • Ability to explain complex solutions/issues to a variety of technical and business stakeholders.

  • Strong experience with relational databases; Oracle or PostgreSQL preferred.

  • Strong documentation skills including the ability to create design specifications.

  • Proven hands-on Software Design and Development experience.

  • Experience with aspects of Web Application Security - authentication & authorization, user management, security scanning tools, vulnerability remediation, etc.

  • Proficiency in solutions development using JavaScript front-end frameworks like Angular/React/Next.js , HTML5, CSS, Python, ArcPy/Python Arcade.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong communication skills to articulate complex solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and oral communication.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
