Overview
A Telecom Technician 3 will be working in a modular construction facility prefabricating electrical module cabling, communication spaces, preterminating cables, pathways, and equipment. assuring the work is being installed in a high-quality manner and performing quality inspections.
Monitors task completion, compliance and prevents safety issues in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Oversees a crew of five (5) or more assemblers.
As a technician you should have the work experience installing equipment which involves using hand tools and power tools, a working understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints and knowledge of codes and standards. Additionally, each technician must make every effort to become a qualified BICSI Technician. Telecom technicians are full time employees with company benefits.
Responsibilities
Have knowledge of and understand the safe use of hand tools and various power tools
Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Follow Safety Policies and Procedures
Actively Participate in Daily Safety and Work briefings
Install various types of Low Voltage Cable
Install, inspect, terminate, test, and troubleshoot ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment such as: various pathways and cable trays, various cabinet and racks, various telecommunications devices, prefabricated components and assemblies, and telecommunications grounding systems
Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices.
Sketch rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations.
Participate in design document reviews and activities to ensure timely, cost effective, and quality project outcomes.
Install, power up and connect fiber uplinks of network equipment into a telecommunications cabinet/rack.
Calculate grounding conductor, conduit sizing and raceways layouts.
Produce 4 week look ahead plans to include, productivity planning for assigned scopes of work, material procurement/staging and tracking weekly productivity to plans.
Possess the ability to train and supervise apprentices in a team environment to facilitate installing cable from Telecommunication Rooms (TR) to work area outlets (WAO) while following drawings and run lists to ensure cables are installed methodically and arranged in proper bundles at TR for ease of dressing and termination.
Maintain accurate as built drawings – As-built drawings are to be updated and logged onto master record contract drawings a minimum of once a week.
Perform quality assurance checks of their team’s work ensuring cable install is performed within all applicable requirements.
Maintain a clean work area and participate in job site clean up
Secure company tools and materials daily
Up to 25% Travel which may include domestic and/or international.
Qualifications
6 + years prior experience in commercial communications industry
18 years of age
High School diploma or GED is required
Must have an excellent safety record, a valid driver's license, and clean driving record in order to meet corporate eligibility requirements to drive a company owned vehicle.
Successfully pass a background check and drug test
Have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite
Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test
Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understanding plans and specifications.
Strong communications, time management and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives
Consistently report to work on time, work well with other to accomplish a common goal and maintain a safe work environment
Wear long pants and a shirt that covers the shoulders by six (6) inches. These are not provided by the Company.
Provide basic tools from provided tool list prior to 1st day of employment.
Abilities:
Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

Desired Skills:
BICSI credentials to include Technician Manufacture Certifications and/or Fiber Certification.
