Aston Carter Senior Staff Accountant in Carlstadt, New Jersey

Description:

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and compliance with internal controls and external regulations. This position is responsible for managing various accounting functions, including general ledger activities, month-end closing processes, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial analysis, audits, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring timely and accurate postings and adjustments.

• Month-End Close: Lead the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation.

• Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and cash flow reports in compliance with GAAP.

• Reconciliations: Perform and review reconciliations of key accounts, including bank reconciliations, asset accounts, liabilities, and intercompany transactions.

• Compliance & Audit Support: Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and support both internal and external audits by preparing schedules and financial data as needed.

• Variance Analysis: Conduct variance analysis and provide detailed commentary on fluctuations in financial performance compared to budget and prior periods.

• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and streamlining of accounting operations.

• Team Collaboration: Work closely with finance, operations, and other departments to provide financial insight and support business decisions.

• Special Projects: Participate in or lead special projects as needed, such as system upgrades, financial modeling, and acquisition integration.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).

• Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong understanding of GAAP. Public accounting experience is a plus.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (Great Plains) and advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, v-lookups, and data analysis.

• Analytical Ability: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex financial data and trends.

• Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in work.

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance personnel.

• Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

• Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
