The Opportunity:

The HR Department is looking for a motivated, positive, friendly, customer service focused individual that is results oriented. The ideal candidate will have experience with workers' compensation or related case management. They will also possess exceptional communication skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization, in a fast-paced work environment where multiple priorities and a variety of tasks need to be managed effectively . The incumbent in this position must be motivated and driven to remain up to date on the changing regulations within workers' compensation, as well as in risk management and act as a strategic partner by providing support throughout the city.

This is an at-will, unrepresented position.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Manage, f ollow up and communicate with injured employees and medical providers to facilitate medical treatment and benefits.

Ensure employees' injuries are provided medical care & addressed by doctors promptly.

Maintain files, records, and other documents.

Provide guidance to staff, patients and providers on all workers' compensation issues and requirements.

Monitor and oversee claim handling activity by Third Party Administrator (TPA) and provide feedback to optimize workers’ compensation program results.

Assist with legal settlement strategies and processes.

Manage modified duty and/or RTW program(s) including coordination with vendors.

Act as a strategic business partner.

Identify and address workers' compensation issues.

Develop and maintain relationships with employee associations and staff.

Interpret and advise on workers' compensation and employment-related policies and procedures.

Recommend and administer professional development and compliance training

Advise department management on and ensure compliance with applicable labor code and HR related laws, contracts, policies, and regulations and develop HR policies related to workers' compensation.

Create, analyze, and interpret HR data analytics and make data driven decisions.

Perform additional duties/special projects as assigned.

    The below skills are highly desirable:

  • Strong knowledge of municipal operations or public administration.

Experience & Education

A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Business Management or a closely related field and four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the public and/or private sector that demonstrates your ability to work in the field of Human Resources, workers' compensation and risk management as detailed above. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates these qualifications may be qualifying for this position.
