About Wabash Valley Correctional Facility:

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is a multi-level security Correctional facility for adult males. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is located in Carlisle, Indiana. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility has both minimum security and maximum security and offers multiple programs to meet the needs of the incarcerated population, including the Special Needs Acclimation Program or SNAP. Wabash Valley’s staff have implemented many beneficial programs to ensure a well-run facility that offers incarcerated individuals a genuine opportunity for growth while maintaining public safety. The facility is also heavily involved in the community, providing support to local food pantries, schools, and other community organizations.

Role Overview:

As a Correctional Caseworker at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a multi-level security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical 8-hour shift, you will maintain the safety and security of your unit as well as provide guidance to offenders on issues such as job assignments, housing changes, facility transfers, facility procedures, act as a liaison between prospective employers, courts, community, and governmental agencies for the purpose of job development and release adjustment, conduct unit orientation for newly received incarcerated individuals, and coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for incarcerated individuals. Correctional Caseworkers will work Monday through Friday with weekends and Holidays off.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

​The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provide guidance to offenders on issues such as job assignments, housing changes, facility transfers, and other facility procedures.

  • Act as a liaison between prospective employers, courts, community, and governmental agencies for the purpose of job development and release adjustment.

  • Assess each assigned offender's risk and needs utilizing the Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).

  • Coordinate with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues.

  • Prepare documentation related to an offender’s temporary absences and progress reports, including case notes and program referrals over the course of an offender’s incarceration.

  • Coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders.

  • Conduct unit orientation for newly received offenders.

  • Adhere to the re-entry policies to ensure all quality assurance job tasks are completed in accordance with policy.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE)

  • At least one (1) year related work experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field. Substitutions: Each one (1) year of related education may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

  • Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services.

  • Must test negative on all drug screenings.

  • Upon hire, the ability to successfully complete all mandatory training including the DOC Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
