A little more about your role…

WSP Industry operates in two main sectors within the UK, Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences and Chemicals which comprises advanced chemical manufacturing, fine chemicals, and fibres. Our projects transform lives. They bring lifesaving drugs to the market, turn chemicals into innovative products and support the energy transition to net zero. This role is to deliver projects ranging in size (from £0.1M to £3M in fees, over 12-24 months) and sector with a total capital spend ranging from £10-£50million. As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead a project team to manage and oversee all the aspects of project delivery, including EPCM projects. You will be responsible for

  • The day-to-day delivery of a wide portfolio of technical projects, consultancy, and advice including project management and leadership.

  • Working as part of a team to deliver feasibility, conceptual, and detailed design studies and development strategies.

  • The integration and management of multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outputs and provide effective project leadership.

  • Providing project management expertise and accountability for the safety, quality, and financial performance of industrial projects.

  • Contributing to business development and developing client relationships as well as actively supporting the development of others.

  • Developing your skills to ensure ongoing flexibility and value to clients.

  • Hybrid working – 2/3 days based in one of the UK regional offices (see below) or client with the possibility of overseas travel so the ability to travel is essential.

Your team

The WSP UK Industry team works on a variety of projects across each sector ranging from initial master planning through Front End Engineering Design (or equivalent RIBA work stages), basic and detailed design, through to implementation. We operate a significant part of our business through an EPCM delivery model working with suppliers and partners alike.

We are a self-supporting multi-discipline business operating within a matrix structure with a cohort of Senior and Project managers responsible for the delivery of projects. As a design-based business of approximately 70 people, our sole aim is to deliver technical-based project solutions to our clients ensuring the highest technical quality.

Our clients are located across the UK including global relationships with several key clients. You will report to the Head of Project Management and work within the PM team. Our Industry team is spread across the UK with a large base in Birmingham and this role will be UK based with regular visits to our Birmingham hub.

We will be looking for you to demonstrate…

Engineering degree (BEng/Meng) qualified. Chartered in own core discipline.

Project Management Professional, holding a PMQ certification (or similar) or if you have individual full membership of the APM (or equivalent professional project management body).

  • Project delivery and contract administration through the project life cycle.

  • Providing leadership and guidance to project teams in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Effectively lead and manage multi-discipline task-focused teams.

  • Taking accountability for delivering projects within agreed financial metrics.

  • Making decisions on complex issues and providing direction regarding approaches and priorities

  • Undertake contract management and administration under a framework or standalone contracts.

  • Communicate, liaise, and manage clients on a project-by-project basis.

  • Clearly communicate project requirements (scope/objectives/deliverables etc.).

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with all project stakeholders.

  • Develop effective project strategy and execution plans.

  • Effectively manage project change and deliver projects within agreed commercial fee arrangements.

  • Manage project risks from inception through to completion.

  • Ensuring compliance with quality management systems and driving efficiencies throughout project execution.

  • Strong technical background, preferably Engineering degree (BEng/Meng) qualified.

  • Professional qualification in project management, quantity surveying, and/or an engineering discipline.

  • Membership of professional institutions preferably Chartered.

  • Proven project delivery experience in one of our sectors and EPCM delivery model.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication and a track record of client-facing relationship management.

  • Demonstrate competence in stakeholder management, risk, planning/scheduling, and commercial management in NEC and IChemE contract forms.

  • Proficiency in the use of project management tools and software.

  • A proven and demonstrable background in delivering relevant projects to a high standard. Can demonstrate enthusiasm for the delivery of excellence in net zero and decarbonisation projects.

  • Demonstrable experience in a collaborative integrated delivery team.

  • Natural communicator, negotiator, and champion of good practice.

  • Good IT skills are paramount,

  • A full UK or Irish Driving License is advantageous.
