Project Overview:

Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 Project which is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions.

Job Summary:

The Lead Electrical Designer will be responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, using Setroute, conduit and raceway design. Responsible to produce lower and higher tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established design scope, modelling, cable routing, cable pull calculations, lighting design using AGi32, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations and lightning protection systems. Develops specifications for equipment and material where deviation from standard documentation is required. #LI-SNH

Major Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Physical Design (and circuit and raceway).

  • Responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, and aboveground raceway design.

  • Works under the direction of Engineering Group Supervisor.

  • Responsible to produce drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.

  • Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts and procedures.

  • Must have proven 2D and 3D CADD skills, must have experience in AutoCAD Electrical, Navisworks programs, and knowledge of Microsoft WINDOWS suite of programs.

  • Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.

  • Responsibilities also include ensuring that the electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations and standards. May interface with Construction and Subcontractors.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate, and work well with others and within a team.

  • Must be able to work well with other disciplines.

  • Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

  • Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires an associate's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-12 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.

  • Hands-on Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD Electrical, Navisworks, and other computer programs.

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical raceway and electrical equipment layouts.

  • Previous hands-on or extensive working knowledge of industry-wide design tools, such as CAD 2D/3D, cable designing, and routing software.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.

  • Hands-on experience with SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections in the database.

  • Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.

  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).

  • Experience in construction interface and resolving field problems.

  • Previous lead experience.
