SEYMOUR PACIFIC DEVELOPMENTS LTD. Senior Estimator in Campbell River, British Columbia

Seymour Pacific Homes is seeking a detail oriented Senior Estimator to join our Team. The Senior Estimator will manage the budget analysis and cost estimation process for our upcoming wood frame single family, town house and multi family residential projects throughout Western Canada. This role involves managing relationships with various departments and internal stakeholders, collaborating with closely with our Development, Design, Construction Management and Civil departments. The Senior Estimator will identify and quantify potential cost uncertainties to ensure that the final budget reflects both the expected costs and potential risks.

A successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that our projects are planned and executed efficiently, within budget and to Seymour Pacific Development’s standards of quality.

Your contributions to the team include:

  • Review documents and design blueprints to understand project requirements

  • Conduct thorough material take-offs and labour estimates

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing all project costs, including materials, labour and project duration

  • Present estimates to the General Manager to finalize estimates for executive approval

  • Communicate with vendors and contractors

  • Update and manage estimate database and software

  • Document and maintain accurate records of cost estimates and other relevant documents to support project accounting and financial reporting

  • Work with internal stakeholders to track changes in plans or construction and update budgets

  • Participate with others in project bids and proposals

  • Ensure compliance with company standards and procedures in all estimates and bids

  • Prepare material estimates or business cases for internal departments to use for project requirements, collaborating with Construction Management, Contracts, Development, Purchasing and Civil

  • Keep up with industry trends and new materials in known and new markets to ensure the company maintains competitive pricing

  • Mentor and assist in training Estimators and Budget Analysts, sharing experience and knowledge to help improve the overall estimating capabilities of the team

  • Prepare and Review monthly executive project budget reports for accuracy, detail and consistency

  • Manage completion timelines for estimates and budget reports

What you need to be successful:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Construction Management, Accounting or related field

  • Up to 5 years proven experience as a Senior Estimator

  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite and database systems

  • Working knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts

  • Knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing

  • Detailed knowledge of construction industry, understanding of construction methodologies, and awareness of current labour, material and equipment costs

  • Proficient in estimating software and technology to provide accurate and efficient project cost estimates

  • Strong analytical and thinking skills to evaluate project specifications and blueprints, assess cost effectiveness, and help determine project feasibility

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities to manage multiple projects and deadlines at the same time

  • Experience with estimating wood frame construction of multi family residential, with civil experience as an asset

  • Previous on-site construction experience with wood frame construction

  • Strong understanding of research methodology, data analysis and estimation metrics

  • Excellent numerical skills and analytical mindset

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills

  • Some travel may be required to meet with external stakeholders and project locations
