Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a dynamic and visionary Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to lead and enhance student life on campus and serve as the chief student affairs officer at the campus. This senior leadership position, which reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Enrollment Management and is a member of the Chancellor's cabinet, is responsible for overseeing a wide range of student services and programs designed to foster student well-being and engagement. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs will develop and implement strategic initiatives that support the university's mission to create an inclusive, vibrant, and supportive campus environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
  • Provide visionary leadership to the Division of Student Affairs, aligning its goals with the overall mission and strategic priorities of Rutgers University-Camden.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and implement university-wide initiatives that enhance student engagement, retention, and co-curricular development through collaboration with the divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Academic Success.
  • Lead efforts to create an inclusive and equitable campus culture, addressing the needs of a diverse student body, including first-generation students, transfer students, commuter students, and historically under-served populations.
Student Support Services:
  • Oversee departments such as Dean of Students, Campus Involvement (Student Life), Residence Life, Title IX, Student Health and Wellness, Disability Services, and Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance.
  • Ensure that all student support services are accessible, effective, and responsive to student needs.
  • Promote initiatives focused on mental health and wellness, student safety, and campus involvement.
  • Student Engagement and Development:
  • Foster student leadership, involvement, and engagement through extracurricular activities, student organizations, and civic engagement opportunities.
  • Support programs and activities that enhance student development and build a sense of community on campus.
  • Collaborate with academic affairs to integrate co-curricular activities with students' academic experiences.

Campus Life and Experience:
  • Lead efforts to enhance the quality of campus life by improving student residential experience, student activities, and other student services.
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and community leaders to create programming that enhances the student experience both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of programs that contribute to a vibrant, supportive campus atmosphere.

Administration and Management:
  • Oversee the Student Affairs budget, ensuring the effective allocation of resources to meet departmental and student needs.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of student affairs professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, inclusiveness, and professional growth.
  • Evaluate and improve policies and procedures to enhance the effectiveness of student services and programs.

Collaboration and Advocacy:
  • Serve as an advocate for students within the university administration, addressing issues related to student life, safety, and well-being.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
  • Engage in external outreach to support student recruitment, retention, and alumni engagement.

Position Salary Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • A master's degree in higher education administration, education, student development, student affairs, counseling, or a related field is required; a doctorate is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs or a closely related area within higher education, with progressive experience in administrative and supervisory/management experience in student-facing, higher education disciplines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proven track record of leadership in student development, student services, or campus life, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in strategic planning, budget management, and staff supervision and organizational management
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement, academic excellence, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with diverse constituencies, including students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging trends in student affairs, student engagement and retention
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
Preferred Qualifications
PhD is preferred. Preferred experience in public higher education institutions.
