We are actively seeking a Quality Engineering Supervisor to join our Cambridge ON team!
The Quality Engineering Supervisor will provide front line supervision to Quality Engineers (QE) while ensuring the general objectives of the Quality Program, including applicable Standards and nuclear guidelines are followed, meeting set schedules and milestones. This also includes maintenance of BWXT’s Quality Assurance Program (QAMs and supporting Quality Operating Procedures), managing internal and external audits; and leading preparations for ASME/TSSA audits.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supervisor Tasks
Manage, supervise, and coordinate the work of Quality Engineers in meeting customer and regulatory requirements. Monitor and make necessary changes to achieve targets.
Anticipates project needs, plan, prioritize assignments, allocate resources, and set clear expectations for the team in meeting project milestones.
Regularly communicate project goals, timelines, and expectations to the team. Ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities. Ensure that team members are accountable for their tasks and deliverables.
Challenges are inevitable. Projects evolve, and unexpected situations arise. Adapts to changes, adjusts plans, and keeps the team on track.
When roadblocks occur and cannot be resolved at their level, escalate promptly. Whether it’s resource constraints, technical issues, or delays, escalate to appropriate stakeholders and to the Director QA & QC, to prevent project setbacks.
Work closely with other departments (such as Production, Engineering, Projects, Quality Records etc) to align production/project goals, priorities and address challenges collectively.
Provide training and coaching to help new and existing team members develop in their current role, while giving them the opportunity to cross train and develop back up capabilities in different areas.
Provide regular mentoring and coaching employees. Manage yearly goals/performance reviews.
Ensure the controlled access and security of the vault as well as maintain off-site records.
Manage and approve timesheets, vacation, scheduling for staff while ensuring adequate coverage for all the projects.
Ensure project and technical documents properly filed, stored, and maintained, per QAM.
Ensure Non-Conformance reports (NR) are raised appropriately in a timely manner, dispositions are provided in a timely manner, and that they are monitored by QEs and closed effectively in a timely manner.
Raise Corrective Action Reports (CAR) deficiencies are observed.
Monitor timely completion of CARs for the Quality Team.
Other Responsibilities
Maintain BWXT Cambridge’s Quality Assurance Program (QAMs and supporting Procedures and work instructions) up to date aligned with applicable Code Editions to ensure compliance with regulatory, governing standards and customer requirements.
Manage internal and external audits in compliance with QA program and customer commitments.
Perform audits on production and quality processes for conformity to regulatory and customer requirements.
Lead the preparations for ASME/TSSA audits.
Manage/maintain Shop Inspection Report (SIR), Approved Supplier Database and other QE owned databases.
Facilitate regular management review meetings.
Demonstrate and lead Quality initiatives in large manufacturing projects from start to finish.
Maintain quality management system processes; vendor management control, document and record control.
Develop process improvement plans using a variety of Quality and Continuous Process Improvement tools, including but not limited to, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, SPC, engineering studies, DOE, Gauge R&R, RCCA, etc.
Support continuous product and process improvement through detailed failure analysis for non-conformances.
Ensure process compliance through the development of simple yet comprehensive procedures, work instructions, flowcharts, forms, templates, checklists, worksheets, and other product and process related documentation.
Provide training of quality requirements to production and support personnel.
Travel to vendor and customer sites for surveillance and audit activities.
Interpret design specs and documents to determine product conformance.
Facilitate problem solving teams.
Support various quality assurance programs and initiatives.
Support manufacturing shop.
Be able to perform QE and Source Assurance work and offer back-up support.
Release weekly KPI’s and drive the monthly Corrective Action Board to review monthly metrics for NCR’s, scrap, reworks stratified by type.
Lead / Support as necessary, to close customer corrective actions by working with Engineering and Production departments.
Ensure on time delivery of history dockets reviews for your respective products.
Ensure successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
Administration
Ensure compliance to all labor, human rights, safety, and environmental regulations and associated company policies.
Promote various safety initiatives and demonstrates a “safety first” mindset.
Responsible for employee relations which includes, but is not limited to, hiring, work direction, mentoring, coaching, disciplining and the identification of training needs for employees.
Manage and mentor employees. This includes setting performance targets, establishing annual goals with employees and conducting performance reviews as required by company policy.
Ensures all employees are suitably trained/qualified/licensed for the various tasks and jobs they must complete.
Sets a positive example by maintaining a respective attitude, cooperating with co-workers, management, and internal and external customers.
Report to work for regularly scheduled shifts on time and ready to work.
Effectively give and receive feedback and willingly asks questions and seek direction as needed.
Willingly accepts responsibility of sharing skills and knowledge with other employees.
Maintains an acceptable level of performance by following established policies and procedures, and participating in continuous improvement efforts by supporting and implementing new ideas.

Perform all other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary education in metrology, quality, or engineering discipline or equivalent experience and education. Bachelor degree an asset.
3-5 years of experience in a quality engineering role or related field.
2 to 3 years of experience working in a quality management or supervisory role is an asset.
Knowledge of ASME Code, ISO 9001, CSA N285.0 and N299 quality programs is an asset.
Experience in precision-machined parts manufacturing and related processes including heat treatment, plating, assembly and testing activities.
Uphold good ethical standards and be a role model. Ensure staff are fully trained/aware on company policies, including ethics, and ensure adherence.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
Strong communication and problem solving skills to work within a team-based environment.
The base salary range for this position in [[Ontario]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[87,000]] and $[[135,000]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
