The Skyline Group of Companies Building Operator in Cambridge, Ontario

We’re growing! And looking to welcome an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team for the position of Building Operator located in Cambridge, ON! This full-time, live-in position is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined and thrives on challenges!

What you'll be doing:

  • Maintaining the physical integrity of assigned properties through general maintenance and regular cleaning.

  • Respond promptly to maintenance and repair requests from the Property Manager or tenants, including to address emergencies and urgent after-hours requests.

  • Experience organizing, directing, and supervising work of contracted labour and services.

  • Performing physically demanding repair work, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc., in both vacant and occupied units, often requiring the use of ladders and power tools.

  • Ensure completion of preventative maintenance on site, including annual inspections of fire. and life safety systems, HVAC maintenance, plumbing, electrical, annual backflow testing, etc.

  • Review, monitor and inspect all building functions including mechanical and electrical areas and provide direction.

  • Contributing to operational excellence through tasks being completed within Skyline standards, and in line with all applicable provincial legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Residential Tenancies Act, and the Human Rights Code.

    What we look for:

  • Understanding of building management, HVAC, fire protection and security systems, life safety systems, plumbing, pumps, motors, roofs, leasehold construction.

  • Knowledge of regional policies, procedures, and standards; industry standards; municipal by-laws; local utilities' standards; Provincial legislation, including fire codes, building codes, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the provincial Gas Utilization Code, and the Boiler and Pressure Vessels Safety Devices Act.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality and integrity, while demonstrating great time management, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.

  • Ability to frequently walk, bend, push, pull and lift items, occasionally up to 50lbs as well as go up and down stairs.

  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and automobile insurance required.

  • PC skills are an asset (Word, Excel, e-mail/web).

  • Building Environmental Systems Certification (Class I & II) BOMI, SMT or SMA an asset.

  • Post-secondary education in an applicable trade or equivalent is required.

  • Five (5) years experience in residential maintenance or related field.
