City of Cambridge, MD Records Technician in Cambridge, Maryland

This position is general clerical work involving the performance of confidential and criminal data entry following well-defined procedures and instructions. In addition, completing crime analysis work in assisting our Office of Professional Standards officer with identifying and analyzing patterns and trends that works parallel to the Departments motto of "Patrolling with Purpose". Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief of Police and Executive Assistant. This position would have flexibility in scheduling and once training has completed, the hours would not need to be during normal business hours.

DUTIES:

  • May compose and type routine forms and letters.
  • Assist administrative personnel with clerical duties.
  • Maintains court issued documents.
  • Enters Warrants, Protective Orders and other documents that must be submitted into the Criminal Justice System and performs monthly validation on entries.
  • Will work directly with the Office of Professional Standards and Chief of Police with crime analysis in the departments vision to Patrol with Purpose.
  • Will work directly with the Detective Sergeant and Special Operations unit to assist with prevention of crime and crime trends.
  • Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail.
  • Assembles meeting packets.
  • Answering and redirecting phone calls, responding to email, and taking messages.
  • Facilitating communications within an office and fielding interactions with the public.
  • Be available for entry of Warrants and Protective Orders after working hours.
  • Be able to work after regular business hours.
  • Preparing and managing correspondence, reports, and documents.
  • Organizing and coordinating office systems, files, and events.
  • Managing office supply inventory.
  • Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of Business English, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of desktop computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or other common programs.
  • Knowledge of common office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to type, take, and transcribe dictation accurately at an acceptable rate of speed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
