  • Proficient in basic quantitative analysis using either STATA or R (R preferred); experience independently using at least one of these packages to analyze quantitative data. .

  • Preferred: Prior experience 1) supporting a lab that conducts experimental studies in psychology and 2) collecting physiological data.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:A degree in a behavioral science-related field with evidence of outstanding achievement is preferred.

The successful candidate will have excellent analytical and research skills and must be comfortable working with data. The candidate must have extremely high standards in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, strong organization and interpersonal skills, and absolute commitment to task completion. The candidate must be able to balance multiple tasks and shifting priorities under tight deadlines at an accelerated pace when necessary. It is helpful if the candidate is comfortable with navigating a complex organization, such as Harvard Business School.Additional Information:This is a full-time term appointment beginning as soon as possible (start date flexible) through June 30, 2025, with the potential for reappointment. All Research Associate roles at HBS are structured as one-year term appointments with potential for renewal based on funding and performance.

This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday – Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

This position is ideal for candidates with an interest in doctoral study focused on psychology, organizational behavior, or other fields after working as a Research Associate for at least two years. The Research Associate will report directly to the faculty and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. Ideal candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.

Primary Duties:

  • Work under the general direction of HBS faculty on topics central to the faculty member’s research agenda. Provide subject-area knowledge, analysis and interpretation to faculty member.

  • Collect, manage, and conduct basic statistical analyses of experimental data collected on-line and in-person in a behavioral laboratory setting, using either Stata or R (R preferred). Interpret and evaluate the quality of results.

  • Exercise independent decision making as research projects progress. When confronted with research data, be able to make deductions, add insight, and draw conclusions to share with faculty. Collaborate in the development of new techniques and instruments to measure psychological and sociological constructs.

  • Conduct reviews of research literature, as needed by the faculty member.

  • Ensure compliance with department, University, and federal regulations. Complete work with only general direction. Be aware of department, School, University policies and potential outside research policies.

  • Under general direction of faculty member, must be able to take complex research ideas, concepts, and methodologies and apply them to new projects and situations. Must be able to structure assignments and keep faculty member informed as necessary, using own judgment.

  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.
