Federal Emergency Management Agency Emergency Management Specialist (Mitigation) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Summary The candidate will report to Region 1 / Mitigation Division. The ideal candidate for this position will superior knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program; experience in floodplain management; providing program guidance to local/state/tribal officials; reviewing, analyzing and recommending corrective actions; excellent communication skills. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will perform emergency management work including managing and coordinating with other entities the mitigation from intentional and/or unintentional crises, disasters, other humanitarian emergencies, hazards, or natural and man-made/ technological (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, high-yield explosives) incidents. Typical assignments include: Providing National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) subject matter expertise (SME) to the general public, local and State Officials, State NFIP Coordinators, Federal Agencies, and regional FEMA staff & leadership; provides insight on policy and procedures to FEMA. Leading all NFIP compliance activities within FEMA Region 1. Providing Community Rating System (CRS) program oversight and coordination with Incident Support Organization (ISO) contractor support. Providing prioritization of Floodplain Managers tasks for Community Assistance Contacts (CAC)/Community Assistance Visits (CAV); assists in the development of program strategies; coordinates Technical Assistance, instructional and Flood Plain Management (FPM) outreach. To qualify for this position at the GS-13 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Reviewing compliance issues for emergency management programs and proposing solutions to management (i.e. Hazard Mitigation Assistance, National Flood Insurance Program, Risk Map, National Dam Safety Program, Floodplain Management, etc.); AND Serving as a subject matter expert to internal or external stakeholders on flood hazard mapping, flood insurance, or the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program; AND Providing training, outreach, or technical assistance on emergency management operations.
