  • Social media (content development, maintenance, management, analysis, and measurement)

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience creating and managing content in a scholarly environment preferred; appreciation and understanding of higher education and academic values required.

• Demonstrated knowledge of web technologies and experience maintaining web content and content management systems.

• Demonstrated experience implementing comprehensive social media and digital distribution strategies across channels/platforms and managing an editorial process to maximize the impact of digital content.

• Experience with Microsoft products (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), HTML, Drupal-based editors, and other web-based collaboration tools.

• Strong analytical and technical skills, project management skills, and a high degree of initiative, motivation, flexibility, and self-direction.

• Impeccable attention to detail and experience with copyediting and fact-checking.

• Familiarity with email client systems and basic graphic design experience.

Reporting to the Director of Communications & Engagement at Harvard College and serving as an integral member of the FAS and College communications team, this role is responsible for:

Integrated Marketing Strategies

• Championing communications for central College initiatives by guiding projects from planning through implementation, collaborating with College departments to develop integrated marketing strategies for programs, services, and objectives aimed at diverse audiences.

• Strengthening communication efforts across the College by partnering with departments and offices to ensure unified messaging and proactive storytelling.

Social Media and Digital Presence

• Shaping and supporting social media strategy across central College platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Spotify, and YouTube; promoting consistent messaging and maximizing community engagement across digital channels through data-informed strategies.

• Guiding, curating, and coordinating digital and social media content by facilitating and integrating student contributions, providing direction on visual projects—including graphic design and video production—and ensuring all content authentically reflects the community, as well as aligns with digital outreach and engagement goals.

Editorial Content for College News and Publications

• Providing management and editorial guidance for the College News, working directly with student writers to shape and refine articles that ensure timely, relevant, and engaging content aligned with institutional goals and enhance the College’s digital presence.

• Developing, writing, and/or editing impactful marketing messages and high-quality content for web, print, and multimedia, to effectively support the College’s mission and strategic priorities.

Consistent Branding and Internal Communications

• Support development and implementation of communications for internal and external audiences, including email, newsletters, calendars, and website updates, while maintaining continuity in communications across the College.

• Assisting with branding initiatives and trademark approvals, ensuring adherence to visual design standards and verbal identity guidelines across platforms.

Student Interns and External Resources

• Supervising student interns on communications projects, providing mentorship and guidance on College communications initiatives.

• Identifying, collaborating with, and managing external service providers, vendors, and freelance creative talent to enhance communication efforts and support high-impact projects as needed.

Responding to Emerging Needs

• Assisting with ad hoc communications and engagement needs as they arise, ensuring timely responses to dynamic and evolving priorities within College communications.

The Communications & Digital Content Manager serves as a dynamic partner to departments and offices across Harvard College, crafting and executing a diverse array of communications strategies that amplify the College’s presence, voice, and impact. With a unique blend of strategic vision and practical expertise, the Manager engages in every stage of the communications process, from ideation to execution, ensuring cohesive messaging and alignment with institutional goals.

This role is central to enhancing the College’s digital footprint and social media engagement, guiding visual and editorial content that resonates with varied audiences while fostering student contributions. Bringing a deep understanding of the College brand, user-centered design, and data-driven insights, the Manager proactively refines communication tools and channels, empowering the College to connect meaningfully with both internal and external communities. This role works closely with communications, digital, and content professionals across Harvard College and its partners in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Harvard University.
