Member of the Senior Leadership Team

Thought partner for building the academic profile of the center and its impact on the field. Primary areas of responsibility include overseeing the publication series; designing, planning and managing academic programming and events; and outreach and relationship building with Harvard faculty and senior administrators, as well as past fellows and other academic experts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Meets with Director and key staff for ongoing, weekly meetings.

Supervises two staff members:

  • the Projects and Programs Coordinator who is responsible for administration of the Fellowship and Visiting Program, and other projects.

  • the Publications Production Manager who is responsible for producing the Center’s academic book series

Fellowship and Visiting Researcher: Program Director

  • Overall responsibility for the planning and execution of the Center’s Fellowship and Visiting Researcher program with an average of 20 residential fellows, 70 non-residential associates, 10 visiting researchers, and 5 visiting artists per year;

  • Oversees and manages the application and selection processes;

  • Develops and monitors program budget;

  • Serves as principal contact for fellows and visiting researchers;

  • Negotiates housing and schedules with fellows and visiting researchers;

  • Designs and plans a regular schedule of academic events, including soliciting and developing academic event proposals with CHS affiliates and external researchers for online and onsite workshops, seminar series, presentations, guest lectures, and other events;

  • Assesses the success and impact of academic events, and updates planning as required;

  • Oversees the design, administration, and maintenance of all program records, including offer letters, visa-related materials, application materials;

  • Assesses program outcomes, proposes and implements changes as needed;

  • Coordinates with the library, hospitality, and IT teams regarding the needs of researchers and consults on policies and services;

  • Advises the Director on related business, such as recommendation letters for fellows;

  • Advises the Director on the development and implementation of proposals for new programs.

Fellowship and Visiting Researcher: Archiving & Recordkeeping

Serves as general registrar: manages the maintenance records of all active CHS academic appointments and related commitments; maintain statistics on all CHS programs in Washington, DC and lists of award recipients; provide certification letters.

Prepares reports for the Director and Executive Committee; contributes to development of CHS strategic plan and ongoing assessment of the institution’s mission, vision, and values statements.

The position reviews and analyzes procedures and policies; assesses outcomes and implements changes; works independently with minimal supervision in a work environment of multiple and conflicting priorities; and anticipates and resolves problems.
