Job Description:

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to lead a team within the General Accounting group. This individual will manage financial reporting, cash management, and fixed asset functions while ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader, capable of overseeing the implementation of internal controls, improving financial processes, and enhancing the overall accounting workflow. This position provides the opportunity to influence key financial reporting areas and work closely with senior management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Manage and develop the General Accounting team, including recruiting, training, and overseeing performance to meet department goals.

  • Establish performance goals for direct reports, monitor progress, and provide professional development guidance. Prepare semi-annual and annual performance reviews.

  • Advise staff on handling non-routine reporting transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure to oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.

  • Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of all financial information, including reviews of balance sheet and key income accounts.

  • Work with the team to identify areas for improvement, streamline processes, and optimize resource utilization while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.

  • Establish and maintain internal controls, ensuring proper documentation and compliance within the General Accounting department.

  • Collaborate with retained CPA firms to facilitate clean and timely audits for both financial statements and pension audits.

  • Respond to requests for information from the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and internal audit departments.

  • Coordinate with other departments to verify transaction data and resolve any issues.

  • Provide timely financial insights and respond to inquiries from senior management regarding financial results and special reporting requests.

  • Oversee the General Ledger, Receivables, Cash Management, and Fixed Asset modules within the PeopleSoft ERP system.

  • Manage banking applications and ensure proper testing and maintenance throughout the year.

  • Research and resolve complex financial, accounting, and tax issues as they arise.

  • Prepare and file various state and federal tax returns and surveys.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred).

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing an accounting group, with experience in professional services or public accounting considered a plus.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures, with experience in CAS and/or FAR is a plus.

  • Proven experience in streamlining processes and documenting procedures to improve efficiency.

  • Prior ERP experience (i.e., Oracle, PeopleSoft, and SAP) is required.

  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and drive initiatives to successful completion in a fast-paced environment.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interface effectively with management, subordinates, co-workers, and external partners.

  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure situations and meet critical deadlines.

  • Candidates must be a United States Citizen.
