PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Coordinator, Internal Communications plays a key role in the development and deployment of strategies and plans for our Communications and Media Relations team. Passionate about effective communications, being on the front lines of internal communications that drive employee engagement. Highly motivated and creative storyteller, you possess strong writing, editing and analytical skills. This position exists to keep employees across our network informed and engaged with original story ideas, and managing client groups across the business with their organization-wide messages. This position is part of a small but dynamic team to provide trustworthy, relevant and engaging content targeted at 20,000 railroaders across three countries in three languages so they can stay informed. The internal communications team works with Marketing and Brand teams to create an engaging content calendar across all channels, with select lines of business within the company to coordinate network-wide broadcasts, and to evaluate internal channel performance to inform strategic storytelling.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop content for CPKC’s internal communications channels (Intranet, employee app and employee magazine). This includes writing communications on behalf of multiple departments within CPKC

  • Provide support in the development and deployment of annual/monthly content calendars in support of all internal communications campaigns and platforms

  • Ensure all communications are ‘on brand’ and meet CPKC’s brand vision and values. Maintain a consistently high standard as you adhere to the CPKC Style and Brand Guidelines

  • Coordinate and implement employee engagement activities, such as online contests and draws, sourcing prizes & maintaining budgets (as required)

  • Use templates in Canva to design and resize graphics and cut videos

  • Perform research on current benchmark trends and internal audience preferences. This includes conducting ongoing analysis of data and tracking of metrics against our KPIs

  • Participate in the development of strategic communications plans on behalf of CPKC’s lines of business (LOB), which includes reports on performance

  • Provide corporate client groups with internal communications support and services including communications strategy, planning, advice and execution

  • Coordinate and conduct photo and video shoots, working with internal operations teams and contractors to produce high-quality assets for use across internal and external channels and events. Occasional travel required

  • Work collaboratively with team members, as well as other CPKC stakeholders, and participate in the tactical support of CPKC branded programs, campaigns and initiatives

  • Provide support for the team and other LOBs as required

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A post-secondary degree within the field of PR/Communications

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a similar role

  • Relevant experience and working knowledge of internal/external communications tactics and channels.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Service-oriented and committed to building effective relationships

  • Ability to work independently, accurately and effectively within a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Canva, Microsoft Planner is an asset

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Digital experience with familiarity with internal communications channels, web and social channels, tools, applications and techniques is an asset

  • Design skills with familiarity on how to develop digital assets for internal and social media channels is an asset

    Management Conductor Program:

    Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
