Aston Carter Senior Financial Analyst in Calgary, Alberta

Description:

This role will serve as the Senior Financial Analyst for Operations. The position will work very closely with all distribution center branch managers throughout Canada in forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing the financial impact of various proposed projects or process improvements. As this is a new position within the company, all processes and models will need to be built from scratch. The individual in this role will need to think of themselves as a business consultant assessing the P&L and addressing gaps in performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Consolidations Analyst in building out financial models necessary to complete Business Plans, Budgets, Long-Range Plan and Bi-Monthly Forecasts. This requires gaining a thorough understanding of key business drivers to accurately forecast the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow.

  • Optimize delivery routes of the internal trucking operation through collaboration with the Logistics Department.

  • Analyze several business processes for financial performance and drive process improvement through cost savings.

  • Create templates for determining ROI of various business decisions such as leasing vs purchasing equipment or outsourcing delivery to another third-party logistics company.

  • Consolidate and analyze P&L data from Accounting, Functional Departments, and entities across the company to create reliable bi-monthly forecasts.

  • Prepare comprehensive monthly results dashboard that involves comparative analysis of budgets versus current year forecasts and prior year results.

  • Create a reporting system to track and analyze financial performance across all P&L lines. Collaborate with all departments to create metrics-based reporting to identify potential areas for improvement. Partner with functional departments to improve and streamline processes and identify cost saving opportunities.

  • Participate in department initiatives to build new tools for forecasting and budgeting. Forecast future spending based on modeled historical data and upcoming initiatives.

  • Build visual analytics using Microsoft Power BI that improves company leadership understanding of historical & current spending, as well as industry benchmarking.

Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of financial analysis experience, with a focus in operations

  • Experience managing a full P&L (in charge of a certain line or several lines, how did you manage those lines? how do you hold people accountable?)

  • Expert financial modeling & business case development skills; strong quantitative & financial analysis skills

  • Analytical capability to effectively analyze trends & hypotheses and make strategy recommendations

  • Balances analytical capability with relationship management by displaying effective and frequent communication with multiple stakeholders

  • Advanced Excel (don't need to know VBA, but need to do financial modelling)

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with developing SQL queries and Power BI dashboards is a plus

  • Retail or distribution industry experience

  • CPA/CFA

  • Knowledge and skills gained through an advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Math, or Statistics
