Company Overview

Prep Academy Tutors is a private in-home tutoring company. We deliver flexible and personalized tutoring programs to our students. We specialize in all subject areas and cater to students from age four to twenty. We hire only the best - certified teachers, or those in the process of completing their degree in Education and pay much higher wages than the industry average.

We are currently recruiting for a very specific position; that of homeschool teacher for the balance of the 2024-25 school year.

About the student:

The family is seeking support for their son in grade 9 but who is currently working at a lower grade level than grade 9. The student is 14 years old and has ADHD, LDs in reading/writing/math, and moderate pragmatic language delay (this impacts his ability to decode social situations and respond appropriately), depression and anxiety. He is extremely relational. The person who works with him will need to build a strong, respectful rapport to be successful with him. He enjoys playing basketball and working out in the gym. He is funny and philosophical. He adores his dog. He recently started to read books, something that he refused to do previously. He wants to do well in school. He just doesn't know how to.

Job Summary

  • Provide academic and executive function instruction to student based on assignments posted by the classroom teacher.

  • Meet all family's goal:

to complete as much school work as is reasonably possible, to the best of his ability, while building confidence in his abilities and strengths and developing strategies to work through challenges

  • Communicate with parent for overall planning and to discuss student progress.

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for teachers who can meet the following criteria:

  • Energetic, patient, and enthusiastic teachers with experience teaching

  • Committed to providing excellent customer service (to both the student and the client)

  • Enjoy working with students & families

  • Great communication skills

  • Must have reliable transportation – the home is in central Calgary (public transit is not an option for this situation)

  • Experience with students with LDs a bonus

Sessions are set for weekday mornings : Mon-Fri 9-11 AM until March 7 then shifting to Mon-Fri 9-12 through to June 23
