As an Account Executive (AE) you will be tasked with generating sales of electricity, natural gas, renewable energy and related energy services to Commercial and Industrial prospects and customers in Western Canada. The role will require prospecting for new business as well as managing and growing a portfolio of existing customers as we look to help them manage and control their energy and related costs through NRG products and services. The primary objectives of this role is to identify and qualify new prospects, make sales calls/visits to new and existing clients, sell the full value of NRG’s products and services with customers within their designated sales territory. This individual will be responsible for the development of a territory in the commercial and industrial market segment in Western Canada.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • This position is accountable for delivery of agreed sales targets in terms of overall gross margin, customer numbers, and energy volumes in the industrial and commercial market segment.

  • The successful candidate enjoys hunting and prospecting for new business and uncovering growth opportunities within your existing book of customers. Prospect and establish a network of new large commercial and industrial accounts daily.

  • Lead generation and prospecting via various means such as cold calling, networking, Linkedin, email communications and other digital campaigns.

  • In person meetings with customers to understand their energy requirements, then develop proposals and presentations that will drive energy sales including providing customers with product, pricing and contract information that aligns with their energy management goals. Help customers understand risks inherent in energy markets so they can make an informed decision on their energy purchasing.

  • Close contracts and submit to internal teams for processing. Follow-up and ensure contracts are reported correctly in the CRM system to ensure you earn your full commissions.

  • Utilize our CRM to manage prospecting activity/lead generation, grow your opportunity pipeline, manage accounts through the sales cycle and track all closed deals (Wins and Losses). Use CRM to identify cross-sell opportunities and various other sales campaigns.

  • Assist customers with their ongoing energy management goals and maintain a strong understanding of Canadian energy markets and factors impacting energy prices and customers budgets.

  • Remain current on the competition and market conditions.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams across functions including Marketing, Sales Operations, Systems implementations, Legal, Credit, and Product development.

  • Will be required to travel within the assigned territory or segment.

  • Adhere to all corporate policies and guidelines and keep up to date on any assigned training.

  • Assist Customer Service as they resolve any escalated customer issues.

  • Be the main point of contact for your customer base with support from internal teams.

  • Negotiate contract terms with customers with support from internal legal team and business stakeholders.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a Hybrid role with 1-3 days in the office per week for key meetings with sales and support teams.

  • Business travel required mainly within your assigned territory for customer meetings.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or minimum of 3 years of experience in Natural Gas, Electricity and/or Renewable marketplace.

  • An established network of large commercial or industrial accounts within the territory or segment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as required to be proficient in Excel and Power Point.

  • Ability to deliver effective presentations and sales pitches in person at customer meetings and/or via video conference calls over Teams or other digital technology.

  • A strong history of exceeding assigned sales quotas and the ability to close deals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in direct/outside sales and marketing consultative selling.

  • University level degree in Economics, Commerce/Business, Energy and/or Sustainability or Finance is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of Canadian deregulated electricity, natural gas and/or renewable energy markets as well as Regulated distribution tariffs and costs.

  • Existing relationships with C&I customer base.

  • Strong commercial skills and proven “hunter” that identifies and closes commodity transactions.

  • Experienced with target account selling, solution selling, and/or managing various sales channels.

  • Must have excellent product and customer knowledge to educate customers on pricing and application of competitive advantages to meet or exceed customer needs.

  • Experience negotiating large complex energy agreements with customers and working with internal stakeholders for input and guidance.

  • Ability to create a new idea or sales strategy and deliver on that strategy.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to research and find new prospects daily through networking, online research, association membership and activities and turn that prospecting into meetings to learn about the customer’s energy requirements.

  • Team player with the ability and insight to communicate with senior managers about business challenges and identify potential solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal communication, presentation and negotiating skills.

  • Ability to learn and grow by your own initiative - ask questions and develop oneself within the industry utilizing internal training platforms, Sales Leadership, internal teams and continue development throughout career.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote work environment with dispersed teams and support.

  • Detail oriented with strong organization and follow-through skills.

  • Ability to sell to C-level as well as meet the needs and requirements of Operations and Accounting Teams with customers.

  • Driven, self-directed, and hard-working individual with high standards for self and others.

  • Positive professional demeanor and appearance to act as a positive representative of the company in front of clients and in the local business community, as needed.

  • A high business acumen outside of the energy industry and understanding of financial statements of customers and factors impacting our customer’s business and operations.

  • Understand how customer’s and various industries use energy and major challenges they face today.
