Northcentral Electric Cooperative Fiber Field Technician in Byhalia, Mississippi

This Position is for a Fiber Field Technician with a company in Olive Branch, MS.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Technician strives to provide maximum service to Northcentral Connect subscribers ensuring work is completed in safe, economical and efficient manner. Work closely with Customer Service Department to maintain an aggressive yet achievable home installation schedule. Complete installation of equipment in subscriber's home and train subscriber to use said equipment. Respond in a friendly and courteous manner to all service requests. Monitor, maintain, and restore health of outside plant and network access equipment. Install and configure necessary outside plant and network access equipment. Supervise proper maintenance and care of all tools and equipment assigned. Must adequately stock line materials on vehicle and check in and out materials for jobs to be done as assigned. Assure that all construction standards and quality of service standards are met upon the completion of any fiber-related construction. Complete as-built records necessary to maintain an accurate fiber plant management system. Investigate, recommend and complete effective solutions to customer complaints with communication as needed. Address customer complaints to the proper completion as required by Northcentral Connect, ensuring response is prompt, courteous and helpful as complaints are resolved. Find and perform maintenance on fiber lines during outages. Operate all types of vehicles and associated equipment. Inform Supervisor on progress of work done, including deviations to construction standards. Determine when a hazard exists that cannot be worked normally and request instructions from immediate supervisor. Train other Fiber Field Technicians in the completion of job-related responsibilities. Develop job-based knowledge, skills, and abilities in other employees. Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate minimum. Must possess valid driver's license. BICSI or CFOT- Certified Fiber Optic Technician certifications preferred. Three years practical experience in telecommunications construction, customer premise device installation, network access equipment installation, and network trouble shooting preferred. Knowledge of fiber outside plant materials and technologies. Knowledge of residential and commercial building construction and efficient cable drop installation inside single and multi-unit living spaces, crawl spaces, and attics.  Knowledge of CAT5E/CAT6 network cable EIA/TIA 568A/B standards and color codes. Experience installing RJ45 plugs and wall jacks. Excellent leadership and communication skills and experience required. Possess or acquire knowledge of the communication and fiber distribution system in the service area, such as location of lines, splice points, recovery loops, electronic equipment, etc. Possess or acquire knowledge to read and interpret splicing maps and explain to others. Must be willing and able to respond to after hours calls at any time during any type of weather. Must possess and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of installation, maintenance, and removal of fiber optic customer premise equipment. Must possess or develop an increasing ability to install/maintain/remove fiber optic drops from fiber enclosures. Must possess or develop an increasing ability to install/maintain/remove/splice distribution and backbone fiber. Must possess or develop an increasing understanding of all communications and outside plant technologies and associated operations. Ability to learn and work with new technologies. Must possess strong computer skills and ability to lean new software and computer-related skills. Must have proven ability to plan and organize work to meet deadlines, all with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills and demonstrated problem-solving abilities. A wide de ree of creativity and flexibility is expected. Knowledge of ANSI, NEC, and NESC specifications, rules and standards. Must have the ability to perform the duties of the position in a proper, safe, and economical manner and be able to communicate well with others. Will be subject to 24-hour call-out. Will observe all Safety Rules and Regulations as Required.

Non-Essential Functions: Participate in other related activities and special projects as may be required or assigned.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stoop; kneel; crouch' and crawl. Must be able to reach; handle; work primarily with fingers; and feel. Must be able to talk and hear.  Must be able to obtain impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, and color or other characteristics of objects. Must possess acuity, far and near, depth perception, field of vision, accommodation, and color vision. Must be able to speak clearly and communicate effectively in order to interact with company employees and members.
